Citizen Uprising
Listening to Joe Wilson re-running on C-Span, with Thursday's panel in the
basement. Heartened by this move, but with trepidation as a citizen with a
disability living in Section 8 housing with Medicare/Medicaid, food
benefits program, and other DFCS programs; other words, my roof and
living assistance are alleviated by the Patriot Act Big Brother
administration I stand against; also in Georgia, Republican-run; also
newly eligible for my prescriptions to be $5 apiece finally, January '06.
A voter for 40 years, absentee when hospitalized and in recent years.
An administrative career prior to this disabling event at age 40.
A signee and newsletter recipient with many protest-oriented organizations
prior to this one. Self-educated; regionally published writer. This
computer was a gift.
Many facets of this Administration's election and subsequent action have
remained infuriating to me, as well as the depressing absence of reportage
that the timing of "Deep Throat's" identity supplies grand emphasis. A
folksy President acting harmless in many press appearances, repeating rote
emphases in refusals to speak to what questions glare, crosses every line
of respect for the intelligence of Americans.
Hoping I don't get a knock on my door nor lose my roof in quieter circumstance, nor
lose my ameliorating programs or ability to buy my medications, and assuming I
won't be carried away by men in black, I offer my support wholeheartedly. As
we all know, we've lost rights, privacy and our earned and inherited reputation
as an active, participatory country with grievance address.
Those of us who buckle to powerful opponents imply that there is no recourse,
the most masterfully orchestrated threat of all.

Powerful and well-written
Powerful and well-written Susan. Welcome to Democrats.com, and thank you for sharing your story with us.
Susan, thank you for your letter
and welcome to our blog.
We have a lot in common. I deal with SSI and Medicare for
my disabled son. We face threats to cut these programs
on both a federal and state level. Our governor, Arnold the
Terminator, isn't helping.
You are not alone. ;-)

Thank you, Bill. :)

No, you certainly are not alone
Susan - I, too, am on disability and I worry about it being lost. I lost my
State job five and-a-half years ago. The state of Indiana was paying for my
medical care, but they decided, on their own without informing me, to stop a
year early. What a shock when I received a bunch of medical bills in the mail.
Apparently, there's nothing I can do about it. I seriously don't think it would have happened if anyone but stupid was in the white house. It seems the corporations
can do anything they damned well please - no recourse for the average taxpayer.
Good luck and I'll say a prayer for you so you don't lose your federal benefits..
But I know it is very frustrating. But hang in there and welcome aboard.
Medicaid Going Under
Sharon, Thanks for giving me a touchstone to feel accompanied! I follow
the Medicare/Medicaid news pretty well, and almost "know" Georgia Medicaid
will have the bottom drop out. The states can't help it, as I understand it,
since Washington has left them holding the Medicaid bag. The nice thing though
is January '06, when Medicare will cover prescriptions at $4-$5 apiece -- just
hoping I can believe them.
Since people are losing their life savings and homes and cars to a serious
illness, it sounds like you're right saying there's nothing you can do. But
you can know you're accompanied.
Good luck to you too. I do hang in and do intend to continue, and hope you do
too. Remember hope.
Do what matters.
