Downing St Memo= IMPEACH BUSH

The Downing Street Memo is the first factual documentation that George W. Bush broke the law.
Below is a letter that I am sending to all of our democratic senators urging impeachment of George W. Bush. Please cut and paste this letter and send it to as many senators as you are able. Also please forward this letter to anyone concerned about democracy. I have included a web site where all U.S. Senators e-mail addresses are listed.

Thanks,
Tom

Dear Senator,

The recent release of the Downing Street Memo is a clear and definitive notice that a law was broken under both U.S and International standards.

Please move for the impeachment of George W. Bush for breaking the law as defined below:

You go daerius!!!

I, too, have sent letters to my House Rep. and to my Senators - as well as FAXED Pelosi, Reid, Steinbrenner, and Conyers. . ..You letter is a beaut, though - direct and purposeful! Let's hope and pray THIS crisis does not get swept under the rug!!!!

We will have to either force this ourselves

or make damn sure we have a majority of Dems in the Senate and House in 2006....let's make sure our votes count this time...!!!

One step at a time...

The right move now is to get behind Conyers' request to Gonzales on Memogate and insist that an Independent Counsel be appointed to investigate this matter. We should be harping on that constantly. It should be the word at the top of EVERY blog. A Mantra... unrelentessly chanted until one is appointed. It is the only way to shed some light on the matter. The RW is so good at that... hysterical and consistent harping until they wear you out and get their way...not unlike spoiled toddlers. The DLC should be on it... and Pelosi needs to be taken to the woodshed for not signing Conyers' letter.

There may be grounds technically for impeachment, based on evidence that is sufficient for the Dems, but there are not enough votes in the Senate to make it happen, so at this time, it is asking for the wrong thing...

At this point, the WH has stated that the Downing Memo is vague so it will not even reply to Conyers' letter. They are interpreting its meaning. Without an Independent Counsel, it will never be reviewed without bias.

Independent Counsel,Indepedent Counsel, Independent Counsel.....

One Step Beyond

You respond like a good liberal...unfortunately I am the new breed of BAD liberal. I believe in going for the jugular! Right now, Bush is vulnerable. His poll numbers are lower than ever and the daily grind of the death toll in Iraq is gnawing away at the certitude of the American populace (read 'sheep').
If Bush's impeachment were started today, the Downing Street Memo would be forced to the forefront of the seemingly impenetrable blockade which we call the media (read 'conservative media'). This would, in turn, educate the amorphous blob of humanity (known as the American voting populace) to finally stand up and take notice.
In other words...Independent Council This!! It is time to stop talking and time to start fighting.

The only thing that you as a

The only thing that you, as a "new breed" liberal, are missing is that we need to take back control of Congress in order to begin the impeachment process. As the minority party, all we can do is suggest and request.

We are ALL outraged, but as GM has pointed out in another thread, under the Constitution and Congressional rules we are currently powerless to initiate any charges against Dubya and Co.

This is why it is so VERY important to focus on the 2006 elections, and to undertake actions with obtainable goals. Ranting and raving about issues over which we have no control will gain us nothing.

Tracking site

Do we have a forum or tracking site to keep ourselves informed about the key races democrats can win? Where we need to send money, etc?

I know Santorum is facing a big challenge. Delay is being challenged, although I do not know how viable the challenger is. Frist is not running again, is his seat up for grabs? Hillary is solid, although she may be battered in the process. How about Missouri? Any challenges there?

Also, how about supporting democratic DA's? They may be our only hope of bringing GOP criminals to court.

I would love to focus on 2006, but except for people asking for money, I don't hear leadership talking about how the grassroots can get involved.

Amen

Why aren't the Democrats more focussed on this. After two stolened elections and Diebold making further inroads with their unverifiable e-voting machines. They have deep pockets and are buying their way into Blue states. This is how the Repugs will win every election, even though the whole country is becoming more and more disgusted. We may very well wake up Nov.'08 with Cheney in the White House.

I disagree with Bill - Impeachment is possible NOW

I know that Democrats are in the minority in both chambers - however, not by much. And certainly there are reasonable republicans that are not Neocons. If we could get the Dems LOUDLY behind pushing for impeachment, and if (this is the only hiccup I can see in the whole process), if we can get one dratted Republican that is on the House Judiciary committee to do what's right - then I think Bush would be out. That is the biggest hurdle - but if and when the Judiciary committee recommends to the full house impeachment proceedings, I think that we'd find the 11 republicans we need to vote "YES". . .Then once impeachment begins in the Senate, I believe there will be enough politically savvy Republicans to notice the change in the wind; realize Bush is doomed and quickly distance themselves from him. Rats are the first off a sinking ship and all that. . .. But the time to strike is NOW - with the Downing Street Memo still in view.

For those of you who want to

For those of you who want to waste a lot of time and energy on an endeavor that has no chance of succeeding, by all means go for it.

In the meantime, I will continue to work towards the goal of re-taking the House and the Senate for the Democratic Party.

I am going to engage in an endeavor

that has every chance of succeeding. I will be arriving in Maui at noon local time and will attempt to deprive the local population of as much alcohol as I am capable of ingesting in seven days. Sorry Bill, but it's been a long year.

Godspeed, my boy. May the

Godspeed, my boy. May the suds be cold, the natives scantily clad, and the children preoccupied.

Hey GM...

I'll also be playing a round on the Emerald course in Wailea. I'll have a cold one in your honor on the 18th.

P.S. I'll post the pic if we have enough space by then!

Gee, whadda guy.

<sarcasm>thanks for the solid</sarcasm>

Oh yeah, and may the lava rock always riccochet your ball back into the fairway.

Craig, say 'hi' to the beautiful sunsets

and warm ocean water for me. Have a great time!

Karin

I'll alert all of the

I'll alert all of the bartenders that I know to stock up...

I want as much as anyone for

I want as much as anyone for that to be true, but it's not. There is no way a that any committee chair will start an investigation, none, zilch, nada, bupkis. Because they are the majority, all committee chairs are republicans, and if Bush or anyone in his staff gets investigated, it will be game over for the republican party in 2006.

The polls already show much less support for them than the Democrats had in 1994 during the Gingrich revolt. People are starting to latch onto the corruptness, corporate pandering, and greed of the republicans.

It should fester into a healthy hatred by 2006.

yep

you're right. The opinion of the public has BIG pull. And as a consequence, some repugs gotta do something .

Just an Example

This post string is the perfect example of why the democrats are doomed if nothing is done about the Downing Street Memo! The conversation quickly degenerates into talk of vacations and golf and fun and sex. Meanwhile, the fact remains that a crime has been committed by the president of the United States. It is time for us to ACTUALLY take the moral high ground and do what is right for the country. The same people who sit back and tell us to wait until the next election, are the same people who cost the democratic party the election the last time around. Pushing for impeachment at this time would force the issue of the downing street memo to the forefront of the news. More american sheep would know about it! The snowball effect would be in place. Stop resting on your liberal laurels America. Do you want to know how much effect a grassroots effort can have? The Downing Street Memo is THE arrow for the Achilles tendon of the Republican Party. It only works if you use it!

Okay, you caught me...

Okay, you caught me -- I'm resting on my Liberal laurels. If you have a plan as to how to get an indictment of Dubya in front of the Congress, let's hear it.

If every Liberal Democrat in America signed a petition calling for impeachment, would that be enough to get the indictment? Would it change the neocon Republican chairman's mind?

Contrary to your observation, this post string is a perfect example of realism. There have been organizations calling for the impeachment of Dubya since right after the invasion of Iraq (Ramsey Clark). It ain't gonna happen, and chasing pipe dreams takes the focus away from our real task of rebuilding the Democratic Party.

Rather than waste the importance of the Downing Street minutes (not memo) on an effort that has no chance of success, it can become a rallying point for Democratic election efforts.

So before you berate fellow Liberal Democrats, take a look at your own single-issue stance. This blog is for, and about, Liberal Democrats and we support many Democratic issues. The "impeachment" movement is only one of them.

This topic has been posted

This topic has been posted on several other forums, but you felt the need to create a new one, without contributing to those. Yours was obviously much more important because you are a new breed of "BAD" liberal. Excuse us for not fully appreciating your self-importance.

Self-Importance?

This issue has nothing to do with self-importance! I am no more important than any of you. I am just a little bit tired of the democratic party throwing elections away by misreading the will of the American people.
Earlier in this string, somebody asked how they could get involved proactively and not necessarily financially. The answer for him? He can't. Traditional dems have got to get a clue if we are to have any hope of winning elections now and in the future. The Democratic Party's strength lies in the hands of everyday people...not in the pocketbooks of the Democratic Party.
By the way, my last post was supposed to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, which obviously didn't translate well sans vocal inflection. Sorry if I hit a sore nerve. I still stand by my points ,however. Oh, and by the way, being new to this site, I didn't see that this subject had been posted anywhere else. THAT's why I started the new string! Please save the sarcasm for someone who deserves it!

A two minute search came up

A two minute search came up with these similar posts: here, here, here, here, here and here.

The nerve that you struck is a common one here. Many new members sign up to push a single issue and don't spend the time to read other member's contributions or get their perspective on a broader range. The members that you chastised have been here a long time and overwhelminly contribute thoughtful and concise material. It wasn't fair to attack them as you did for adding a little levity, and if you would have spent some time reading other topics, you would have seen that.

Leave the site moderation to those who are responsible for it, that is the point of my sarcasm, and it was deserved.

Now lighten up, show some respect and play nice.

This is another good example

This is another good example of why new members should not be allowed to post for a period of time. Some of them seem to think that we are all asleep at the switch, and only they can "save" the Democratic Party.

And with that GM, I'm going to lock this node down, as it has reached its point of diminishing returns.

Of course people can "get

Of course people can "get involved" without contributing financially. They can talk to their friends and neighbors. They can write letters to the editor of their local papers. They can volunteer to help Democratic candidates with campaign organizing. There are many ways to contribute to the re-building of our Party.

Those of us who can afford it, contribute both financially and with our time. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) does indeed need financial support to continue its efforts to undo the damage done by the DLC and other centrist appeasers over the past decade.

Please do not assume that the members of this blog are all talk and no action. We are, as a rule, some of the most proactive Democrats on the planet. If you would take the time to research this blog (including the blog submissions AND the forum posts), you would find that we were on top of the Downing Street minutes (not memo) as soon as it was announced.
