Even if every one of these Florda counties went unanimously for Kerry -- count them up, Keith! -- that's still, at most, about 50,000 votes. Bush won by 350,000 votes in Florida.The fact that these counties have been voting heavily republican for years, and went for Bush in 2000, does not seem to encumber Mr. Olbermann in the least.

My first thought on Nov. 3d, after having spent election day at the polls in Columbus, OH, was that this result was odd at best. Bush had a 48% approval rating, but got 51% of the vote? And of course, I saw with my own eyes what an ordeal the voting truly was, what with only 3 machines in a district of 1,100 registered voters, a republican challenger, and bad weather.

Let's face cold hard facts here: we may not be able to overturn the election, but something is deeply wrong about these results. At the very least, we all should be supporting the recounts and other attempts to make sure that the result we got was the result the people intended.

I, for one, having been there, believe that if every voter had been able to vote, and if every vote were counted, Kerry would have won Ohio. In Florida, I remain puzzled by the fact that Bush's percentage of the vote was so much higher in staunch democratic counties without paper trails, while he got trounced in democratic counties with paper trails.

Significantly, both Ohio and Florida have repugs in charge of voting arrangements. Something is wrong here, and if the worst is true - repugs conspiring to rig the election - then Watergate will look like a kiddie party. Let's find out.
