need excellent minds

Need your input on letter to my Senators. One of Bush's gestapo nominees is from my state of NC. Just checked my Senators site - hoping they would say if they are going to vote for or against Cheney/Frist "nuclear option" Figured I would drop a little line about how corrupt Judge Boyle is - so that my voice it heard. Any help - additions - opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Here is my letter: I hope that you and Mr. Dole have been talking about the “nuclear option” and I hope that you listen to him on this one.

BOB DOLE WARNS GOP AGAINST NUCLEAR OPTION When asked about whether the Senate should do away with the filibuster, BOB DOLE said: "I think you have to be very careful, that's my advice, before you start tinkering with the rules. I mean the rules have been changed before. You want to think down the road. The Senate's going to change. It's not always going to be Republican. It changes back and forth. History shows that." [See bottom of this email to listen to the Dole interview and what he said about Bush.] Dole is the latest Republican to come out against the Nuclear Option. During an appearance on Face the Nation this past Sunday (4/10/05), Senator John McCain said "yes" when asked if he is opposed to doing away with the filibuster. In a March Wall Street Journal opted, former Senators Jim McClure (R-Idaho) and Malcolm Wallop (R-Wyoming) wrote: "It is disheartening to think that those entrusted with the Senate's history and future would consider damaging it in this manner. And it is not as if there are no other options. At this point, no one knows how the 'nuclear option' drama will play out, but we would respectfully offer to senators, both Republican and Democratic, a bit of back-country wisdom: When you find a bear in your cabin, it's not smart to try to burn him out."

I can’t even believe you would want to see Terrence Boyle in the Federal Court. He has the worst reversal rate of any judge Bush has nominated. His decisions are repeatedly reversed for “plain errors.” Everyone makes errors but Boyle just doesn’t quit – he continues to make the same mistakes from which his decisions have already been overturned. He ignores a party’s objection to a Magistrate Judges recommendation. He is very aggressive in supporting “states-rights” views in cases that criticize Congresses authority to protect individuals from discrimination committed by state agencies. I guess the people of the South still want the blacks in the black of the bus – will we ever learn? Is this a man who should even be sitting behind a bench? I was so pleased to learn that Jesse Helms blocked almost all of Clinton’s nominees from NC so that now it has created an “emergency” by leaving long standing vacancies in this state. You Republicans are hoping that this will allow you to push through your nominations. When will you Republicans ever learn to work with anybody? When will you ever think about people’s rights and not corporate profit? I guess you will continue to use abuse your power to make sure you get exactly what Bush wants. This will have long lasting effects, long after Bush is gone. I personally agree with John Edwards’s assessment of Mr. Boyle, “As a North Carolina Senator, I am familiar with (Boyle’s) record. Judge Boyle’s decisions have been reversed or vacated more than 100 times. Two of these rulings were by the United States Supreme Court, one by a unanimous vote. Judge Boyle’s record on civil rights is particularly troubling. In numerous cases, he has inaccurately interpreted the law in a way that undercuts basic civil rights protections. As a member of your committee, as a Senator from North Carolina, as the Senator most familiar with Judge Boyle’s record, and as your colleague, I ask that you not proceed with this nomination.”

Gloria, it's usually my job to be the emotional and abrasive one around here, so stop stealing my thunder.

But seriously, I'd tone down the "you republicans" and any indications of your party loyalty. Just word it like you are an informed, concerned constituent.

GM - I'm trying

GM, that was toned - compared to my first draft but I'm still working on it.

War does not determine who is right, war determine who is left.

Ouch. That first draft must

Ouch. That first draft must have been a doozie.

He probably won't

even read a long, "in your face" rant. Besides your complaints about the judge are the very reasons those who support him, do support him. Propose an alternative choice, or suggest your congressman's obligations to his constitutents. Just my 2 cents

I have long since come to believe that people never mean half of what they say, and that it is best to disregard their talk and judge only their actions.  Dorothy Day

Toned down more

I was so pleased to learn that Jesse Helms blocked almost all of Clinton’s nominees from NC so that now it has created an “emergency” by leaving long standing vacancies in this state. Now Bush is hoping to push through this nomination to correct the problems. So why does the Senate have to change the rules to get this one through? How many other times has his nomination been refused? Don’t you think he is not qualified for a lifetime Federal Judge appointment?

War does not determine who is right, war determine who is left.

That last sentence is a great

That last sentence is a great point. Appointing someone to a position for life should require the approval from more than just the party in power. It should require the blessing from all Americans, even those in the minority party. That is what the filibuster provides.

GM, stealing your line

Send me a bill, I'm stealing one of your lines - It should require the blessing from all Americans, even those in the minority party. See, now that is why I posted the letter here first - for editing! I suck at writing but I still learning how to get my points across. Thanks!!!!
