Iraq Quagmire Is Impoverishing Our Nation
National Bus Tour Calls Budget a Moral Document
The tide is starting to turn.
The missing piece is falling into place.
Religious leaders from across the country are beginning to raise the voice of their moral authority in a newly formed organization, Clergy and Laity Concerned About Iraq. Representing more than 50 denominations running the gamut of Christians, Jews, Muslims and then some, it was launched with a major event at New York’s Riverside Church on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s speech that he called "Beyond Vietnam," in which he said:"I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as adventures like Vietnam continue to draw men and skills and money like one demonic, destructive sucking tube."
Substitute Iraq for Vietnam, and Martin’s prophetic words of April 4, 1967, apply just as painfully today.
The group has begun a national bus tour of religious leaders, with the potential to capture the attention of the media and counter the influence of the religious right. It can be a catalyst that can turn the tide of our nation’s drift to darkness instead toward the light of goodness.
But these committed, courageous religious leaders are long on faith and short on money. A national bus tour is expensive. It’ll cost $100,000 to conduct. If you want to stop this crazy war of choice, support our troops by bringing them home, and get our nation to spend its tax dollars in accordance with our values, please, please, please give what you can .

I would say that the national budget is an immoral document but this is I think, a big step in the right direction for real Christians and others of true spiritual and moral beliefs.

Lady Di, I would rather send $300 billion to the poor people of oil rich Iraq, so we can continue to shut down our un needed schools,
especially here in Portland where they have closed 5already!!
Close down our wasteful fire departments, reduce the Police staff
because we all know the right wing never commit crimes, so why have police?
Missing the boat...
I took a cab the other day from Pennsylvania Ave to Rosslyn (VA) across the Key Bridge --w/ a Lebanese cab driver. --He asked my 'I looked upset'; I said ; Oh I just heard another George Bush lie and another lie is a series of error of omissions. --
Then he said; what I love about 'Amerika" ; is the fact that people can make a 'living here'..no matter what they do--as long as they work 'hard'...in my country and other MiddleEast countries there is 'no hope' to ever get rich no matter how hard you work...because its not the Amerikan way.
(I suppose being a cab driver inside Wash DC); is like a glorified airline pilot in their country.
...I told him that --we can't compare illusions of America to the 'reality' of what we expect for our 'tax dollars'. I proceeded to ask him; BTW; since you're in a 'cash/carry' business I suppose ; since you're really not a U.S. citizen [because you said your wife lives in Lebanon] ---do you pay into U.S. employment taxes , and file an income tax return like normal U.S. citizens have?--- I think not.
I've noticed one thing; there are no more 'white tobacco chewing, middle-aged cab drivers in New York City nor Wash DC --I often wonder why?? ---Because the unions are controlled by the 'foreigners' of 'long-term' cab drivers that can only run the 'business' and the fees and occupational hazards. --The monopoly is over-loaded and 'foreigners' have cornered the market in major hubs. ---They have 'commercial licenses'..but it doesn't mean they file income taxes.
How can they file taxes; when they carry a bundle of cash everyday --and don't have to go to the bank --no 'direct deposit' ..and the 'fare riders'..don't file W-4's...?? go figure. The best job in town.
George Bush --has been waving the flag of 'freedom and free borders' since he was Governor in Texas and certainly since 2000 --and its increased our neighborhoods, schools, jobs, churches, businesses; with the foreign flair of 'freedom'. --It's done more damage than good.
My question to Bush? --Why increase the numbers of ;lower and medium classes' with foreigners...and why are you trying to 'eliminate the 'medium/upper middle class'.
Bush wants (2) classes of Americans 'rich and poor'..and wants the 'poor' to pay for all the 'rich's fringe benefits'....no different than 'Saddam Hussien'..except without the 'violence'.
