Kerry is stronger candidate than Hillary

John Kerry is still the strongest presidential candidate in either party.  He can win, given another chance.

No challenger has ever beaten a wartime incumbent. The "Don't change horses midstream" theme hurt us, especially with Osama making videotapes just before election day. Ironically, the terrorist who Bush refuses to bring to justice helped get him elected. The convention scheduling also put Kerry at a huge disadvantage.

Kerry almost overcame these tough obstacles. He united the party, built the grassroots, made a very inpiring convention speech, had a great convention and crushed Bush in three debates. Who can forget "Boy George" nearly in tears during the first debate while Kerry steamrolled him.

This is more than we can say for Gore, who squandered the advantage of a prosperous incumbency and lost to Bush in two debates. Unlike Gore who disappeared, grew a beard and got fat after his election, the gritty Kerry remained in Bush's face demanding he unite the country. Meanwhile the spineless Hillary panders to republicans, telling us how great this Iraq war is!!! It makes me wanna puke. She lacks the fight to stand up to them.  Could she withstand the rigors of a grueling two year campaign of smears, or will she have more fainting spells?

Kerry would also build an excellent cabinet with Biden, Clark, Graham, Richardson, Edwards and Holbrooke likely to play prominent roles.  We have unfinished business. John Kerry should remain our candidate.

Come on you guy's...

Why don't you just run me as a candidate? I am Canadian, but what the hell, I bet that Arnold will be running at that point.

Kerry Refused to fight, Hillary will not quit

We don't really need a guy who drops the ball and runs like a coward. Hillary seems more in line with consistency and fighting.

Kerry is currently a Democrat

Kerry is currently a Democratic Senator, and he is doing his job. Hillary is currently a Democratic Senator, and she is doing her job. They are a rare breed in the Senate right now, and we need them.

2008 is irrelevant.

Kerry

Submarine   USS Wahoo  ss238

Kerry will be President in 2008

But for now we must focus on 2006 and get Santorum out of there

along with others

Henry adulterer Hyde is retiring also

we can regain in 2006

I like the way your mind works, Wahoo.;-)

First things first and always consider the large picture.
We need to focus on 2006 now. Can you believe we're almost halfway through 2005?

Don't expect the Republicans

Don't expect the Republicans to lose Hyde's seat.
Unfortunately, DuPage County is is as red as
an Orangatans ass.

Hillary

I can not begin to tell you how much of a mistake it would be to run Hillary Clinton out for the Democratic Nomination. Most of America sees her as a Bitch in high heels. I'm talking right out of Texas here...take that for what it's worth. Women even hate her in the throughout the country...she has no chance whatsoever in 50/50 states. This is a woman who's husband has constantly cheated on her and yet she has done nothing but stood by him. That's not strength to me...that is a weak, selfless and shameful woman. I have no idea what people see in her that make them think America wants her as the face of this country. I have no particular affiliation but I can tell you that Republicans will smash Hillary Clinton if they run her out there in 2008. I really hope that Democrats aren't that short-sighted and get her out of the running before the conventions. It boggles my mind at the candidates the Party throws out there....they just don't appeal to the american public...they tend to only appeal to the northeast. It's very short-sighted.

Hillary is not electable

Do you really want to hear all the paranoid neocon "scandals" drudged up one more time? Too many people hate Hillary.

mcgovern72, I see that you

mcgovern72, I see that you are starting up right where you left off the last time. Do you remember how that ended?

It is disruptive to this blog to (1) bash sitting Democrats, and (2) to drudge up old nodes for the purpose of continuing a pointless debate.

Kerry is our best chance

Yes Paula you are so right John Kerry is our strongest canidate in 2008, but if we no not win back some house and senate seats in 2006 it does not matter, we have to control at least one of the branches of goverment to get anything passed. John Kerry is a true american hero!

Question: What will happen in

Question: What will happen in 2006? Will you be promoting Kerry for 2008, or will you be working to support a candidate to replace a Republican for a Congressional seat?

Most of us on this blog do not give a rip who "looks good" for the next presidential race right now. It doesn't matter. What matters is regaining seats in Congress, and in local state-wide elections. We need to rebuild and revitalize the Democractic Party from the grass roots up.

Support Howard Dean and his efforts to re-energize the DNC, and to rid the Party of the DLC centrists who have brought us to this sorry point in our history.

Will fight to win 2006 seats

Bill,
You are right. We must concentrate on the fight to win 2006 seats.
I have been actively writing letters attacking Santorum, etc. Didn't mean to get off track, but the Hillary 08 crap was getting to me.

Bill: You are right on those

Bill: You are right on those two points, senate seats 06 and fighting Santorum. That guy is a threat. He makes Bush seem like the Candy man.

As far as 08. . . . I like Hillary a lot, but Biden looks awful good!

I would also second Bill's st

I would also second Bill's statement. We can mull over the possibilities of 2008 in our minds all we want, but our focus and our actions need to be about electing Dems in 2006. That is what we need to work for.
In the mean time we keep our current representative's "feet to the fire", regarding BA policies.

Kerry '08?

I'ts way too early, as stated by Kerry recently. First we have to get verifiable voting machines, then worry about '06. I would prefer Kerry to H. Clinton at this point. Never underestimate the "angry white male backlash" vote.

2008...

President: John F. Kerry

Vice-President: H. R. Clinton

2008 is a long way off

And we have the whole 2006 election to tackle first...I suspect that we'll have a number of unanticipated options available in 3 years, and that neither Kerry nor Hillary will seem all that tasty to us then.

I'm supporting "None of the above" until I see a candidate who's able to use the word "LIAR" in the same sentence with GWB.

LIBERAL: If the word bothers you, then you don't know what it means.

re 2008 a long way off

I agree that we must think and plan for the
elections in 2006 but it doesn't hurt to
also talk about 2008...as Democrats we are
certainly intelligent enough to chew gum
and walk at the same time. Personally, I
would love to see Barbara Boxer run. She
has the courage of her convictions. She has
no problem demanding a straight answer and
not letting them get away with evasiveness.
But sadly I don't believe that this country
is ready for a female President. Oh well,
I can dream, can't I?
In the meantime, I agree that we MUST get
rid of Santorum. I live in Pa. and my
goal is to oust, not only Santorum but also
Bill Shuster who also just gives a blanket
approval to anything that Bush wants. Time
to clean house.

And exactly what will we

And exactly what will we talk about for 2008? Will it help our immediate needs to argue about candidates that may, or may not, run for office?

Since you have only been a member for 45 minutes, maybe you should take the time to do some research on this blog. You will find that countless forums about 2008 have all led to arguments, and pointless speculation.

Preparing for 2006 will give us enough gum-chewing and walking practice without daydreaming about a presidential candidate.

Speaking of yellow dogs

I will vote for a yellow dog before I vote for a republican.

All the Dems mentioned in this forum are dedicated hard working people who could and would do a hell of a job, especially after the havoc of the BA.

re yellow dog

Gosh, what do you want? She went to law
school and worked in a law firm. I don't
know much more about her but she had
certainly been "doing" things before she
met and married Bill. When she was the
First Lady, she moved away from the "female"
role of serviing tea and cookies and devised
a national health care plan until she was
blasted by the Republicans and the corporate
news media. As for sticking with her husband
after he betrayed her, just think of the
feeding frenzy the press would have had if
she had left him. Whatever she had done she
would have been wrong....wrong to stay (and
not stand up for herself) and wrong to leave
(and not try to work it out for the sake of
her daughter). I often wonder how many ways
a wife can be blamed for doing the wrong
thing when it's her husband who does the
behavior. Humm, sounds like this may be a
no win situation for the wife.

Gore! Gore!

Gore! Gore!

bore

bore! bore! bore ! no way

Kerry is great, but...

... as many in this thread have noted, it os 2005, not 2008, and we need to be looking at the congressional, state and local elections that are coming up.

Let's give the next Democratic President, whom we are going to elect in 2008, a Democratic congress and a clear majority of state governments. If we can win in Montana, we can win everywhere. Until then, let's not pre-obsess over who he, or she, is going to be.

And let's work on getting

more Democrats in the Governor's Mansions!
What's up with the blue states(like mine) with
two Democrats as Senators and a Repub. governor?
Bill, I feel your pain! Hawaii has the same story.

There is much work to do.
Please don't forget our young people
who aspire to work in politics.
Their time will be here, before we know it.

Clarification,

I meant Bill Harding,
not Bill Clinton.

WHY IS BILL CAMPAIGNING ALREADY FOR HILLARY?

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE ARE CONFRONTED WITH THIS EVERY OTHER WEEK. I THINK THAT WE SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON 2005 AND SOCIAL SECURITY AND WORLD MISAFFAIRS. BILL NEEDS TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT. MAYBE IF HE HAD BEHAVED BETTER, WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD VALUES CRAMMED DOWN OUR THROAT. WHILE IT CERTAINLY DIDN'T DESERVE KENNETH STARR, IT STILL WAS UNSAVORY. I AM OF THE SCHOOL THAT BELIEVES HILLARY HAS TOO HIGH A NEGATIVE RATING AND I AM A LIBERAL FEMALE WHO GOES TO WORK EVERYDAY. BILL'S HEART PROBLEMS HINDERED HIS CAMPAIGNS FOR KERRY AND HIS ADVICE WASN'T TOO GOOD EITHER. HE NEEDS TO FIND ANOTHER HOBBY FOR NOW. JOHN EDWARDS FOUND A VERY GOOD OUTLET. BILL DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN POLITICIZE.

I agree with everyone, except...

I agree with everyone except the Hillary and Gore pounder, which sounds like a repug attack ad a tad early.

2008 is irrelevent. 2005, and 2006, and what the democrats do for our stance now is all that matters. I am willing to consider each and everyone of our great democratic leaders so long as they stand up and fight. No fight now equals no vote in 2008. And I have no problem these potential 2008 candidates taking different paths - left-leaning, anti-war, centrists, what-ever - so long as they stand up and fight when the right tries to push their agenda through congress.

If Kerry and Hillary are the best we've got we will never win!

John Kerry ALREADY beat George W. in an election. But even though he was told the Republicans were going to steal the election, he ran out on us. Why on earth would we support Kerry ever again?

It pains me to say negative things about Kerry and Hillary because I still respect them both to a degree. But when it came to the sanctioning of Ohio's electoral votes, which granted was a symbolic battle, neither of them stood up for us. Kerry has never explained to his supporters why he hightailed it out of Dodge when the votes were being counted by the Republican voting machine companies. We needed his leadership at that moment, but he offered none. Hillary made a feisty little speech on January 6 but then voted against Barbara Boxer in sanctioning the Ohio votes. She is from the same overly-cautious camp that recognizes the brotherhood of the ruling elite before giving any consideration to those of us out of the limelight.

The good news is that we do have some highly intelligent, capable, AND courageous leaders in the House and one in the Senate. Those are the people I consider leaders. If you want to consider someone interesting for the future, look at Jesse Jackson Jr. or Mel Watt. There's also a young woman from Georgia (I think) who is very sharp and well-spoken -- Rep. Cynthia McKinney. And then there's the leader of the pack, Rep. John Conyers, who would make a great candidate for any office. I'm sorry that I don't recall all the names of those Congressmen and Congresswomen who stood up on January 6, but each and every one of them would get my support. And don't forget that Al Gore had the courage to fight for our votes in 2000 until the Supreme Court shut him down. So I would trust Al to fight for us again as well. We have lots of good people in the Democratic Party -- so we don't need to keep on wishing that the same ol' dogs will start hunting when we can get new ones.

I have said before and I will say again, we do not need country club liberals. We need down-in-the-trenches Democrats to battle the Republican machine. John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, and Bill Clinton as well for that matter, are not fighters. Think about it, if they had their druthers would they do lunch with you, or would they prefer do have lunch with Dennis Miller, the Schwartzeneggers, or the Bushes?

But those congressional reps and Senator Barbara Boxer, who fought for our votes on January 6, would probably be more interested in having lunch with a common citizen like you or me. Those are the people who deserve consideration for future races. Forget the elites!

Never ever concede to fraud.

And I should also mention Rep. Schakowsky...

...as a potential candidate.

Again, we Democrats are not short of good leadership material. U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Illinois, is another fighter on our side.

Never ever concede to fraud.

2008

Start the buses everyone it will be John Kerry in 08 as your next President of the USA. He lost the election to an incumbent by 3 million votes and it was very close. No wartime incumbent has ever been beaten thats why Kerry lost. He is a Vet who actually faught unlike Daddy's Boy who didn't step foot in Vietnam. I think a Kerry Clinton Ticket is a sure lock for a win for the Democrats in 08 because things are not goign well for the Republican Pres now

Once again, I would like to r

Once again, I would like to remind everyone that it is counter-productive to argue about who each of us likes, or dislikes, as a potential presidential candidate in 2008. That choice will sort itself out beginning sometime in 2007, and we will have plenty of time to discuss it then.

Our Party is badly in need of unity and of being re-energized -- right now, at this very point-in-time. I am extremely proud of Sen. Barbara Boxer and Rep. John Conyers for their stand on the election issues. I am equally proud of Howard Dean for choosing to help us accomplish a make-over of the Democratic Party, and to reverse the debillitating consequences of the DLC's influence.

Bashing the sitting Democrat members of Congress is also counter-productive, regardless of how you view them personally. We desperately need their voices in Congress, and in the public forum, to help us fix the problems with the voting process. We need every ounce of support we can muster, if we are to take back our rightful place in the American political system.

Support ALL Democrats, and especially Howard Dean. The DLC centrists in our party will either see the light, or they will be replaced as necessary. Until then, we need even them.

Bill, A+ post!

You said it all! The phrase "United We Stand-Divided We Fall"

Bill and Golfmonkey

You're in there,too.
You're quite a team! ;-)

re: once again

I disagree with your comment that we need
to support all the Democrats. I will not
support a Democrat who has not been doing
their job, who has become a Republican
"wannabe" or who has helped the Republicans
pass their unconstitutional, illegal and
immoral laws. We cannot reward this type
of behavior or we will never get the type
of Congressional people we need to set this
country back on track. Look at the hounding
Clinton had to put up with. We need someone
who can stand up under that type of pressure
because we will still have many left over
Republicans in Congress who will be joined
by the corporate news media who will try
their best to beat down whatever Democrat
is in office. We need strong people not
wannabe's or wimps.

Once again, take the time to

Once again, take the time to read and research this blog. We are striving to clean up the mess left by the DLC, but in the meantime we need every Democrat voice in Congress that we can muster.

It appears that you are just picking and choosing "hot button" issues to argue with, and that shows signs of a potential disruptor.

Bill you must type faster

Bill you must type faster than I.

Perhaps I got this wrong. I

Perhaps I got this wrong. I thought this was
a blog for Democrats to get together to
discuss issues, to support the principles of
the Democratic Party and to work toward
improving our present government. If I am
wrong then please set me straight.

And how do you feel about

And how do you feel about that?

So you saw no distinction

So you saw no distinction between the two paths I mentioned? It is only proper etiquette to do a bit of research before jumping on a long term member. Having said that; sure, point out the errors of our ways. We need each other. Do not be surprised however if many arguments have already been worked through and refined. In such cases there is no time to start from the beginning. The blog is archived and awaits anyone’s perusal.

Rest assured there are some approaches to topics that are already being launched with no additional discussion (in the general sense). That is a bad thing when done dogmatically, but a damned good thing when done pragmatically. Liberals must be disciplined. If you can bare to take advice (who the hell can) you might not want to wrestle long term members on this one. Give us your input on other matters. Create a track record for yourself. Slowly bend us before you attempt to snap us. In the meantime you may find yourself opening up to a wisdom that comes from many voices or stumbling upon threads which discuss ad nauseum the very topic you broach.

True, now please consider

True, now please consider reading the blog at length as well as clicking on a posters name to find their previous posts under TRACK. I think you will find that a moment or two doing that will illuminate any particular post a member makes. In particular there is a difference between taking our party back and trashing the name Democrat. In short Bill was alluding to that and/or the LONG line of thought developed here on democrats.com.

I'm beginning to suspect

I'm beginning to suspect that this newbie is not so new.

Right now the only thing I am

Right now the only thing I am concerned about is Tim Kaine 2005 for Virginia Gov. We need to keep a democrat in office here!
(Warner can't serve more then one term :( ) I will worry about 2006 when it comes
