They may even have a negative impact on the country. Democracy cannot be imposed or strengthened with guns and tanks," the former Soviet leader said.

No kidding! That the Iraqis were threatened with having their food rations withheld if they didn't vote should tell you all you need to know. It's no small stretch that they were also forced to vote for certain Bush puppets. Wasn't there a story about Alawi's government killing dissidents a few days before the "election"? This isn't democracy, this isn't freedom. The Abu Ghraib prisons reopened under new management and Saddam's justified killing machine is now back in power in the form of Bush puppets.

and Raygun didn't 'win' the cold war. He performed a great American media show over a country that imploded on its own. That's what republicans are known for - taking credit for things not of their own making.
If they didn't take credit for accomplishments not of their own making, they'd never be able to take credit for anything at all...at least not anything positive in nature, anyway.
For instance, Raygun's great accomplishment was Iran/Contra. You'll note that he didn't take credit for that one, claiming he was outta the loop, much like George W. Bush does now.

He didn't say that Gorbachev won the cold war, he said he ended it, which IS factual. Gorbachev gave up on the arms race in effect ending it.

Gorb ended the cold war by opening the Berlin Wall, peacefully, without firing a shot. Reagon was a madman trying to start WWIII(like someone else.) What are you doing on this website anyway?
Saddam's killing
Randi Rhodes(Air America in late 2004) was saying the Saddam was forced to kill many of his citizens because the US(under Bush Sr) encouraged them to overthrow the government. She said that if the US citizens tried to overthrow this government, then it would be justified in using deadly force. And the Iraqi's were starving because of US sanctions put in under Bush Sr.

Give Gorbachev the credit...
When it was clear that the cold war was lost and communism would end up on the scrap heap of history, he could have destroyed his country or the entire planet on the way out. But he didn't.
Reagan skillfully took advantage of conditions that would bring about the end of the communist world. Eventually it became impossible to maintain the Soviet people in ignorance, with advances in travel and communication. Population increases and economic problems made it impossible to feed the people under an inefficient system. Reagan was in the right office at the right time.
