Bush Says Election Ratified Iraq Policy

President Bush said the public's decision to reelect him was a ratification of his approach toward Iraq and that there was no reason to hold any administration officials accountable for mistakes or misjudgments in prewar planning or managing the violent aftermath.

"We had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 elections," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post. "The American people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates, and chose me."

It really makes one wonder if this man is this far out of touch with reality  or just lying as usual, in the hope that a lie told often enough will become the truth.  I predict that his belief  that he has a mandate, at least among those who really count, will be the hallmark of the next 4 years.   I just don't know how we will fight against a leader who is deluded by his desires, as this one is.

It sems like he is out of tou

It sems like he is out of touch but I'm not sure that is the case. (Well, HE may be, but his advisors are not.)These are the type of statements the BA is known for, even if it appears to fly in the face of reason.
IMO, making this kind of statement and the timing of it, is
an attempt to reverse any effect of the recent admittance of no WMDs statement.
Yes, I expect Bush will bring up his "mandate" belief again and again, depending on how is image is doing.
I don't know exactly how we fight this, but I know we have to keep trying.

Trying to rationalize the irrational

It seems that he is entirely safe in claiming a mandate, since the country is so divided that those who voted for him are so happy that their guy won that he can do whatever he likes and the rest of us don't matter anyway, in his mind or apparently in their minds either.

He, Bush, as a spoksman for the neocon policies, is becoming like a Mullah with millions who follow him blindly. I find it so frustrating that otherwise intelligent people have their minds made up and slammed shut where he is concerned, to the point that he can lie to their faces and they are not even offended. He doesn't have to explain his actions, they dutifully do that for/to themselves on his behalf.

He takes money out of homeland secutity to pay for bleachers so that his followers can sit while they wait for his limo to drive by and those who scream about Bush being the only one who can keep them safe from terrorists do not complain. That money was earmarked for the DC police, for gear that they would need in case of an attack on DC. If that wasn't enough he then sells those bleacher seats back to those republicans who can't afford tickets to the balls and dinners and does the money go back to DC , hell no, it goes into the RNC coffers.

It is like a bad remake of "Night of the Living Dead" or maybe it is " Return of the Body Snatchers" bodies walking around with nobody home.

I have a good friend who is really spooky smart. He voted for Bush, even though he cant's stand him. Why, because he is afraid that the democrats want a 70% tax on our incomes! Where the hell did he get that idea? From Rush Limpballs? That on the face of it is nonsensical. I wonder how many others voted for Bush on the basis of some totally irrational premise? I would guess that would be 85% of them.

wisdom

I guess there are a lot of "spooky smart" people who are not very wise.

GOOD NEWS ABOUT LIAR - BUSH

Well the good news is that Bush has decided not to pursue a Constitutional Amendment against Gay Marriage - claiming that there is not enough support in the Senate for that. Well this is great news for many reasons. 1. All the Christian Evangelicals who voted for Bush will likely feel sold out and not vote in the next election. 2. All the people that have been suffering under the Bush Presidency will likely (hopefully) make sure that they vote and keep the republicans from winning again!

I would appreciate it if you would visit my website and send email support as I was hurt in Iraq and I need a lot of people to send Halliburton and AIG Claims adjuster Joe Johnson emails asking why they will not pay for my medical bills and lost wages?

Thanks for your support! My Iraq Page

Being Relentless

This shows how important it is to continue pointing out to others that he was never "elected" in 2000, let alone "reelected" in 2004. Fraud is what allowed him to be foisted upon us in both cases. So, in the same way that the Republican leadership and their mouthpieces in the self-styled mainstream press never tire of speaking with a forked tongue, we must never tire of speaking the truth. Do not be hypnotized.

My first husband told me he w

My first husband told me he was voting for Bush (no, we didn't divorce over politics) but he could not give me a clear, logical reason why, other than, "no one can protect us like he (Bush) can".
Mind you my ex works 2 jobs, has a young child, is worried about his employment, needs diabetic meds, yet the other issues in the campaign did not seem to matter. He saw one issue & one issue only - terrorism.
This blind trust & closed minds (as dinamic mentions) is what part of the Dems are up against.
Where there should be outrage, there appears to be just a collective shrug on many peoples part.
Somehow, we need to change this.

FNN?

I really think the right wing media is affecting people and they don't even see it for what it is -- brainwashing.

Does your ex watch Fox News Network or listen to Limbaugh, or Galliger?

Motive

It's much more than a carefully-crafted statement to cover his own hide. It's a warning to legislators not to attempt to keep dwelling on the lack of WMDs and other 'mistakes' made along the way AND it's an attempt to save the republican party from destruction.

He knows the second term is harder than the first. He's no longer 'inexperienced,' and don't expect a honeymoon.

Finally, saving the entire party from the mistakes made in the first term is a powerful motive to, say...pull some underhanded things - if you know what I mean.

It's more than just about himself. The whole danged ship is capsizing. He's reminding the republicans that if anything comes of any investigations, etc., their party is dead for a very long time.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

I believe what you say is tru

I believe what you say is true, Necco.....frightening but true.

gag me with a spoon

i glad i keep my barf bucket handy for moments like this one...

Policy Ratified

The pResident's Iraq policy is his to brag on.

A policy of distortion, lies and intimidation.

A policy of savage imperialism.

A policy rife with the death of innocents.

...whatever...

I don't suppose any of the Bush supporters will remember that the WMD revelation happened AFTER the "moment of fraud accountability".

He doesn't take responsibility for anything anyway. At least this time, if Americans ever figure out all of his pre-war mistakes, he'll have blamed his own supporters instead of blaming us.

Get used to it

Polls before the election consistently showed that a clear majority of Americans did NOT support his war. Just more bushit. Get used to it. Four more years of propaganda and misinformation. bush supporters have blood on their hands.

In Dubya's teeny little mind,

In Dubya's teeny little mind, his 3% rednecked moral mandate allows him to disregard the concerns of half of the American people. He is actually admitting that he is the half-witted president of the half-witted voters in our country.

He actually believes that all of the lies, insinuations, and half-truths he used to justify an invasion of Iraq are offset by the election.

You are a damn good writer Bi

You are a damn good writer Bill

Which war is he talking about?

Is Mr. Bush talking about the war to find the weapons of mass destruction or the war to overthrow Saddam or the war to fight terrorism or the war to make Iraq a democracy? He creates another reason to justify the war when his current one is proven to be false. Now,he is trying to find anyone who can claim to have any relative who ever lived in Iraq to let them fill out an absentee ballot. Not only do we more defective voting machines than the rest of the world, it is now easier to be an absentee voter of Iraq than of the U.S. Mr. Bush does not even know what it is to be accountable. Besides, he is mixing up words. He doesn't want anyone to criticize him or his veracity not his accountability. His opinion is that he can use any means at his disposal to accomplish his purpose, and we, the People, cannot question him. This is not what democracy means. I will continue to question and demand answers even if he won't let anyone in the media, his party or the Democratic Party do so. Whatever happened to our right to dissent? I really worry that it will cost us a lot more lives and money until the people who voted for him wake up and realize that a true leader doesn't make need to control us by making us afraid of everyone and every thing.

Yes,we can and will question,

Yes,we can and will question, demand answers, criticize, and work to get at the truth of things. We'll do it ourselves, and through our representatives (some of them anyway).
His attitude of "you don't dare question
what I say or do"('cause we'll tag you as unpatriotic for starters), is like a shot across the bow.
I have to believe (and it may be naive) that people have to wake up, and that they will wake up.
(Having said that however, I thought there was more than enough to wake people up BEFORE the election).

If you have cable and tru-e i

If you have cable and tru-e is avalible on it check out a documentary called "Declarations of War" it is interviews with ordinary people before and during the latest Iraq War. One man who really struck me on the ultra-conservative side marched with MLK if you can believe that? He is now an apologist for the administration and all that they stand for. Another who I fell madly in love with was Wexler, the film maker who did " Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf". there were several other people in the film all expressing their thoughts about the war in Iraq, based on where ever they got their news. I found it very interesting.

This beats all but should we

This beats all but should we really be surprised? Here is a man who never take responsibility for anything - forget the WMD's what about 9/11? I can't help but wonder how this would have played out in previous administrations? I missed the morning talk shows, where they all over the statement as they should be? Does this mean everything will be swept under the rug and we will not find out who was responsible for the Plame outing; among other issues?

This really is the height of arrogance and IMO, is telling of how Dubya has no regard for our system of government. The man ought to be impeached for failing to protect and defend the constitution - instead he is doing all he can to dismantle it.

Does this guy realize his app

Does this guy realize his approval rating is 48% and dropping fast?

"I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies"

Arrogance

He is so arrogant it just makes you want to nail his a** to the wall. The only thing saving him from this is the republican congress 'yes'-men. What a brat.

I think Necco is right -- he said this for his "friends" as a warningto them to refrain from questions and a message to protect himself. It is also a great way to let Fox News Network report on the "real accountability" and validate him.

He should not be President.

Thanks John Kerry

Thanks Kerry. I have to listen to 4 more years of this crap from Bush because of you!

Not everyone agrees with Bush

Political Divisions Persist After Election

"President Bush will begin his second term in office without a clear mandate to lead the nation, with strong disapproval of his policies in Iraq and with the public both hopeful and dubious about his leadership on the issues that will dominate his agenda, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

On the eve of Thursday's presidential inaugural ceremonies, the survey found few signs that the country has begun to come together since Bush defeated Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) two months ago. The president has claimed a mandate from the election, but the poll found as much division today as four years ago over the question of whether Bush or Democrats in Congress should set the direction for the country."
