Obama gets a spine
I do not know how everyone else feels about Obama's verbal thrashing of republicans, but I for one like it. What did he have to lose at this point.
I do feel that he waited way too long to let them have it, and it probably fell on deaf ears, as far as the republicans, but I am proud of him for doing it.
Now lets see if the media attention he got from this will result in any bipartisanship at all from the republicans.
Right now Obama needs our support more than ever. If enough people will stand up and let people know they support him the media will not be able to go back to bashing everything he is trying to accomplish.
If we are not willing to stand up and support our own, we do not deserve to have the majority in Washington.
Lets try and be more positive this year than we were last year, that should not be very hard at all. The bar was already set so low.
About that spine....
I have just moved back to the US from 10 years in Central Europe. When I left the US, it would have been fair to say our political system was still sort of working. It is fair to say that now it simply does not. There is no one, and I do mean NO ONE in our system with any sort of calcium level in their backs... no one. I cannot and will not support cowards of any type in any way. Until the good guys on our side can actually stand up to the people on the right who will do anything it takes to see Mr. Obama fail I will not participate in the system. How to do that??? Simple.... force them to filibuster. Force it. Call for the vote on health care. Just do it. Let Americans see for themselves what kind of people are trying to bring down our system of government, let the rest of the world see these people for what they are. I've only heard one other person express this view, Doris Goodwin, the presidential historian, and she's absolutely correct. I've been saying it for months now. Will anyone out there join me??

About that spine, Part 2
For some reason my last comment has been deleted. Since all I asked is that our "leaders" develop enough spine to stand up and force a filibuster, I am surprised as well as extremely saddened that someone at this site would pull my comment, especially since at least one poster agreed. Are we all supposed to march in lockstep with the editors of this site?? Isn't that what the other side does?? So far, not much evidence of any spine around here that I can see......

I remember the original post, but I do not remember if you inbedded an ad into it. If there are ads imbeded in post it will be removed.
Also abusive language is not tolerated. Like I say I read your original post and can not remember anything wrong with it.
Only certain persons can remove comments. You can go to frequently asked questions and contact moderator to request reason why it was removed.
It is entirely possible it was removed by accident.
Democrats.com does not require you to walk in lock step like the other guys (repugs), but they do have some rules that need to be adheared to.
Read the rules and happy posting, your views are appreciated and wanted here on Democrats.com as long as rules are adheared to.

First, thank you for replacing my post. There were no ads in it (a ridiculous notion) and there was no abusive language. It may have been an accident, it may have been someone way over reacting. Either way, thanks for putting it back. My point remains the same. Until we ALL can grow some spine, the other side will continue to beat us up and we will lose all the recent gains we have made. They get 41 senators, and now they control Congress??? Whose math is that?? People say "Death Camps!!!" and we sit back and laugh, not believing anyone would belive anything as dumb as that. Guess what??? Tens of millions of our countrymen belive every word of it. Fox News producers are filmed exhorting crowds and creating news, not reporting it. What's the reaction from our side??? Nada. My point is, let's stand for something. Even if the health reform bill does fail, force the filibuster. Take a stand for what's right. Start asking "Why don't they want you to have insurance?" when they start telling their lies. I'm sorry if I seem strident, but I don't like wimps very much. Let's stand up to them for once.

Obama gets a spine
I completely agree with Gary Brill's remarks. Obama has not yet gotten a spine. What's with the title of this blog? It should be "Why hasn't Obama gotten a spine?" I am wondering who has bought him out. Or is he so enamored with himself as president that he has lost touch with the reality of his supporters already? Or is he so weak that he is being manipulated by his advisors, like possibly Rahm Emanuel, who is possibly very out of touch also? Whatever the reason, he better get on the ball with the health care issue pronto, or he is in big trouble.

The title of the forum was because he stood up to the republicans and chastised them for being the party of no.
Obama has shown repeatedly he has a spine. It is the Democrats in congress that need to back him up.
He is only one person and without their backing he is powerless to initiate change.
We stand together or we fail together. Also the health care issue is not the only issue Americans are facing.
By letting the issue die, it will resurface when the health care industry destroys itself by greed.
And it will soon enough.
I would rather see us working on the other problems and forcing the republicans to show where they stand on each issue.
The time has come for us Democrats to start standing up to the republicans and standing behind America,s choice for president. Remember without us he is just one man against the republicans.
Look for the good and post positive things that Obama and the Democrats have accomplished or at least attempted to accomplish.
It is real easy to join in to the populous and bash Obama, it takes guts to defend and back him.
I also want to go on record saying Gary shows a great deal of intelligence and forethough in his comments and he is an asset to Democrats.com.
