we need mass single-payer healthcare demonstrations: easy, visible, national, media-attracting
some ideas:
-everyone honks their horn/flashes care lights at 530pm every friday
-musicians out in the streets at an appointed time, play 'my country tis of thee' etc, people out in the streets singing something simple like "single payer in our country' to this or some common tune
-everyone encouraged to wear white armband with red cross on it.
Mass easy events, with dramatic impact!
any ideas on how to organize this and spread the idea virally?

single payer demonstrations
i have been making white ribbons. it is easy and cheap. all you need are rolls of ribbon, straight pins, black inkpen, and a red inkpin. cut the ribbon in 5 inch lenthes shape into a ribbon place straight pin where the ribbon crosses on one tail draw the red medical cross on the other write signal- payer, medicare 4 all, or hr676.org download flyers, copy at your local kinkos office max ect.....................have fun, inform and draw awareness to the dire sititution. you will be suprised at how many people do not have a clue about what is going on or what the issues are. i am getting all kinds of responses. i hate the I got mine so what " attitude !
also if you print handouts that list insurance ceo's saleries etc. this usually gets them !!!
WHERE ARE THE UNIONS AND LABOR ORGANIZATIONS
spktruth200: Are you noticing how quiet the labor unions are on the issue of health care. In Delaware our union leadership has been bought and paid for. They have not raised their voices or called for any action to support single payer. They use the campaign slogan, "Health care for ALL", but when pressed as to what they mean by that statement they are dumbfounded. Its time for the AFL-CIO and other labor organizations to stand up for single payer. Stand up for the working stiff, getting stiffed every day by these greedy insurance companies. When we are loosing our jobs overseas to countries that have single payer or no health care at all...these corporations are making billions more in profit. I can not understand why the unions dont have their rank and file out every day helping progressives get this done?
NOT ONLY THAT!!!
During economic hard times that employers are firing people left and right for ridiculous made up reasons to avoid paying 50% of the unemployment benefits, UNION REPS ARE NOT REALLY REPRESENTING MEMBERS! It is still about the money, UNION REPS are getting paid being the liaison between employers and employees but they still let employers win most of time.
The unions are pushing for the public option
Unfortunately, although proved worldwide to be the best healthcare delivery system, single payer does not have enough political sponsorship in our country. The union leadership is going to work with what is actually on the table, which is the public option.
The AFL-CIO and the USW are really standing up for the public option. I have a USW newsletter that explains to members that it is important to support the public option, even though many USW members have better benefits. Both Richard Trumka of the AFL-CIO and Leo Gerard of the USW are committed and brilliant progressives. USW has an associate membership program. I am an associate member, and I encourage you to join and see for yourself.
Getting an idea viral --- HARD ASS WORK
I've been pushing an idea, and by the way I like the blinking lights too. I've also been trying to get the ribbon that the MAD AS HELL DOCTORS created produced. http://www.madashelldoctors.com But the easiest thing I think is for EVERYONE ACROSSS the NATION to put a sign up in your window or on your front door or in your car. These congress people have to travel from home to work. They need to SEE us. We need to have so many out that the NEWS media begins asking about it and talking about it so that average JOEill learn what HR676 Single Payer IS. So I created an "EVENT" at Facebook. You don't actually GO to it you just say attending to show you're going to comply. AND maybe I can get some unions and some organizations to send this message out on their subscribers and list it as a campaign but for God's sake I've been doing this since July, you'd think I would have succeeded by now.

I
just wanted to be sure that you understood that all I'm advocating is
placing a sign in your window or on your front door or on your car. If
you can do this or you support doing this, please consider changing
your status in the event to "attending"
If you need items for your car try these two sites:

ALSO PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PUBLIC OPTION AND SINGLE PAYER, PO IS A DECEPTION KIND OF LIKE WHEN THE BIBLE SAYS THE DEVIL WILL APPEAR AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT!!!!

Has someone linked Huffpost yet?
They have pages on all our issues and healthcare touches all of them so spread the word, take it viral and link on Caffety's site. He's grassroots and will mention it during the week which will come out in a question. I just blog and link all our sites together. There is strength in numbers and that's what we call grassroots connection to the media. Olbermann, and Ed Shultz.
Reliable sources that just want the "truth out" They don't spend mindless chatter and spin. They report on issues usually not spoken on that need to be. I will be putting a sign for HR 676 and support single payer. I think that is the only reason they are "allowing" public option as it is.
They are scared crapless.

Scary
Scary that so many people don't understand how dangerous a single-payer or public option are to the liberty of the citizens of the US. Emotion over logic is the true danger here...
ThomVF : Why don't you show your facts to back up what you spew.
It is a shame that you spew this crap but never show how a single payer or public option are a threat to our liberty. What liberty are you speaking of, the liberty to make millionaires into billionaires. Or the liberty to lose everything to the big insurance companies because we cannot afford to keep coverage because they jack the policies up or cancel us. Or maybe the liberty to use our taxpayer dollars to subsidize the big insurance companies to insure they make a profit. Not to mention it is only a matter of time before the big insurance companies will be fully owned by foreign countries. I trust large insurance companies as much as I trust republicans to help the American people that are not filthy rich. Wayne Blackshire Proud Active Democrat
Really scary
Boo! Medicare is a single-payer system, as is the Veterans' Administration (that's actually more "socialized" because it pays its physicians directly, and administers health care through its own health care system).
Are you suggesting that people in all the other industrialized nations are living in tyranny - that they aren't living in liberty - because of their health care systems?
Are you suggesting it is preferable to have an American die every 12 minutes for lack of medical insurance and care?
Yes, your emotion over logic is the true danger here.
Health Care
Why doesn't the government try to try a national health care in the IHS (Indian Health Service) System?? DUUUHHHHH!!! We suffer from diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, obesity, at 5-10 times the national rates. SO why not try it on something the damn governement already controls?!? Seems like the easiest thing to me because I am a patient of the IHS system of healthcare. Let's try and make it like England, and that is how many blood pressures lowered, diabetics are lowered, cancer is avoided, etc. we give those IHS doctors a bonus just like England does. Doesn't that sound good??
If you have any more suggestions contact me at yakama2@yahoo.com I am SO open to suggestion more than you know and what I portray. Take Care and Much Peace in Your Life!!
Health insurance and all other matters
You will get what the politicians allow, end of story.
