EVENTS

VENUE:
UU Fellowship of Gainesville

4225 NW 34th St
Gainesville, FL 32605

starts: 07/26/2009 - 10:30am

On Sunday, July 26 Florida peace activist and writer, Jeff Nall will discuss “Humanists and Christians Unite: The Defense of Religion and the Religion of Defense” at the UU Fellowship of Gainesville.

In “Humanists and Christians Unite,” third-generation atheist and newly certified humanist minister Jeff Nall takes on narrow-minded atheists and their intellectually faulty analysis of the religious. Drawing on his 2008 book, Perpetual Revolt: Essays on Peace & Justice and The Shared Values of Secular, Spiritual, and Religious Progressives (Howling Dog Press), Nall argues that the humanist movement is too narrowly focused on church-state separation. Progressive and peace-minded humanists and believers must join forces in order to combat imperialism and war.

The event takes place at 10:30am. The UU Fellowship of Gainesville is located at 4225 NW 34th St, Gainesville, FL 32605

Nall has been a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy co-organizing Patriots for Peace (Brevard) in 2003. In March 2009 Nall co-organized “Florida March for Peace” under the auspices of Humanists for Peace, attracting a great deal of media attention – info at www.FloridaMassMarch.com). The previous year Nall organized and led “Florida’s First Mass March to Stop War on Iran,” which attracted half-a-thousand people and also garnered significant media attention.
