MoveOn Members and Children from Turn 2 Us Program
Urge Congress to Save Clean Air Act

As the energy bill moves to the Senate, local residents of all five boroughs of New York City will hold a rally in front of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s Manhattan office at 12 pm on July 23, Thursday, to thank the Senator for her work to fix the legislation, and deliver a letter urging Congress to save the Clean Air Act. The version of the energy bill that passed the House of Representatives was significantly weakened by industry lobbyists and would repeal a key portion of the Clean Air Act, opening the door for as many as 100 new coal plants to be built.

At the rally over 40 children from Washington Heights' Turn 2 Us program of New York Presbyterian Hospital will deliver large thank you cards with their own conservation pledges to the Senator, and MoveOn members will deliver a giant-sized “Thank You” card signed by its members. Because of the importance of clean energy to our children's future, many participants will be bringing their children and grandchildren to the event.

“If we don’t fix the energy bill and save the Clean Air Act, we could get stuck with 100 new smokestacks where we could have had thousands of new windmills. Solar and wind create twice as many news jobs as dirty energy industries like coal,” said MoveOn member, Nona Ellis from Manhattan “We’re here to show our support and gratitude to Senator Gillibrand for doing what’s best for New York, and the country, and working to create an energy bill that will save the Clean Air Act and give us the clean energy economy we need.”
