The screening of A SENSELESS DEATH at the San Diego Public Library
A Discussion with Local Activist Fernando Suarez Del Solar Follows the Film
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Public Library will host a screening of A Senseless Death. This new film by Raymonde Provencher tells the little known story of "green card soldiers"-young, non-citizen soldiers and Marines struggling to achieve, the so-called, "American Dream"-who were among the first casualties of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
The screening will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8 in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library, located at 820 E Street in downtown San Diego. This free event is open to the public.
Among the first fallen were two young Latin Americans--José Antonio Gutierrez from Guatemala and Jesús Suarez del Solar, who was born in Mexico and raised near San Diego. Both would lose their lives in an unpopular war. Fernando Suarez Del Solar, Jesús' father, would become an outspoken critic of the war and a dedicated activist opposed to the militarization of Latino youth.
A discussion with Mr. Suarez will follow the screening of this moving documentary which combines the hot button issues of immigration and war in 21st century America.
