PA, Philadelphia: Protest the Army Experience Center Enticing Youth

EVENTS

VENUE:
St. Luke’s United Church of Christ

11080 Knights Rd.
Philadelphia, PA 19154

starts: 05/02/2009 - 1:00pm

Join us in Philly on Saturday, May 2nd, 2009. Activists from around the east coast are converging on the “Army Experience Center” (AEC), a 14,000 square foot atrocity built by the Department of Defense at a cost to taxpayers of $12 million.

The AEC gives kids as young as 13 a chance to play extremely violent video games, as well as sit inside real Apache helicopters, tanks & humvees mounted with M-16 assault rifles. The youth are enticed to jump on board and kill the “hadjis”. Right next door is the largest indoor skateboarding park which attracts local youth. Kids can be seen going from having fun skateboarding to playing bloody “war games” sanctioned by the US Army.

This center was designed to be the first of its kind and if recruitment is successful, others will be built around the Country. We must say NO!

WHERE AND WHEN

Gather: 1 PM, St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 11080 Knights Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154-3511

Rally will begin with speakers including St. Luke’s Pastor Rev. Bob Moore; Col. Ann Wright, Ret. Army; Sue Neiderer, Gold Star Mom; Celeste Zappala, Gold Star Mom; Debra Sweet, National Director of World Can’t Wait; and singing by the Raging Grannies.

At 1:40 we will kick off our march to the mall, which is about 1 mile down Knights Rd. We will march on the sidewalk with our signs and banners.

Demonstrators from a coalition of 30 national and regional peace groups will march along Knights Road to the mall’s entrance with signs reading “War Is Not A Game” and “Shut Down the AEC.”

Protesters will attempt to serve a criminal complaint on the Army Experience Center as well as the mall owners, Simon Property Group, by marching into the mall to hand the document to the officer in charge.

Our complaint states, in part, “THAT: the Army Experience Center is therefore involved in the “Criminal Solicitation of Minors” – soliciting underage persons to act in a violent manner and thereby promoting and supporting criminal and corrupt behavior...”
