Why I voted for Barack Obama
I voted for Barack Obama because it is a moral imperative. I was raised in a Republican family in a Republican stronghold, but by the age of 14, I knew better. To quote, of all people, Isaac Mizrahi, "I am a Democrat because I am not mean and selfish enough to be a Republican." So many people operate under the fallacious assumption that people get what they deserve and deserve what they get, in order to excuse the horrendous inequities in our society and in the world. I don't understand how anyone can consider themslves a Christian, or an adherent of any other religion (except perhaps Scientology) and be a Republican. To be one is the the antithesis of religious teaching. Did Jesus not say, "Am I not my brother's keeper.?" In grade school, I was taught that the founding of Jamestown was based on "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." That settlement was hundreds of years before Karl Marx. I believe in the separation of church and state, but the foundation of our laws rests on the Ten Commandments. I suggest that Republican voters are in extreme need of an education in points of the Constitution of the United States and the Bible.

I could say that I voted for Barack Obama because I agree with his foreign affairs
policy. I believe we agree that our current wars fit the profile alongside of
other wasteful wars which have outlived their usefulness and that they should
come to an end in a timely manner. Further, that all veterans should finally be
treated with honor and dignity, as they always should have been. It has been a
travesty what we have done in this regard. That there have been wars which have
been waged simply because the Commander in Both in the past half dozen years and
in history our Commander in Chief could not admit that wars either were not a
good idea or that it was time for those wars to come to an end. Can you spell
Vietnam, et al? By the same token, why did Bushy W. take his eye off the ball
and instead look at the next shiny object which came into his vision when the
Taliban and Bin Laden was so closely in our sights so many years ago in
Afghanistan? Obviously, Barack Obama he has excellent advisors who have advised
him and he is listening to them, unlike Bush or Johnson in the 70s. Presidents
are only as good as those around them, and THEN they must listen to their
advisors. Actually, any president who listens in general gets my vote. Yes, I
could say I voted for Barack Obama because he listens.
I could say I voted for Senator Obama because I believe of his brilliant and
long-awaited foresight of how we can
marry the environmental issues with the economic solutions for our country.
Scientific breakthroughs, green jobs, natural gas, alternative fuels, building
fuel efficient cars (well, finally; we’ve been asking for these since 1970)
will only lead to a stronger economy. Brilliant. Yes, I could say I voted for
Barack for these reasons. And, what a concept, won’t it be nice to have jobs emanate
from the U.S. instead of internationally. I could say that I voted for Barack
Obama because he is interested in giving a tax break for companies who will be
hiring American employees instead of outsourcing. I am very tired of hearing
Indian, Romanian, Pakistani an accents every time I call for Customer Service.
It will be refreshing when this begins to transition under the Obama regime.
I could say that one of the reasons I voted for Obama was because I marched
for Martin Luther King was I was 12 years old in 1962, for Cesar Chavez when I
was just a little older than that, and that many of my friends were children of
Japanese flower farmers who had been forced to live in WW II intern camps, even
though they were loyal Americans. I could say I voted for Barack because many
of my friends' parents did not speak English since they came from Mexico and
spent all of their time bent over in the fields, picking vegetables. Mine was a
wondrous growing up. I had the experience of weaving the many colors of peoples
throughout my life, much same way as it seems that the senator in his Hawaii. I’m
so thrilled to see that I could cast my vote for a man of color -- though I
have no idea what took so long for this opportunity to occur, and I would never
say that I would simply vote for a man of color because of the color of his
skin.
I could say that I voted for Barack Obama because I am a woman and I raised
my children as a single parent, much like his mother did with he and his sister
-- and that Barack Obama seems to care about women. My son is a child I brought
into this world out of my womb, and my daughter is adopted. I would hate to think
I would have been forced, that the birth mother of my daughter would have been
forced, my own daughter would ever have
been forced, or any woman would ever be forced to take a fetus to term without
to regard to that pregnancy. That is a terrifying thought — the thought that the
mother would not have any power over her own life or health, that the
government would have control over her life, and body, and mind.
I could also say that I voted for Obama because of his stand on health
insurance, since my mother also fought and lost, as his mother did, her battle
with cancer. I am currently fighting for my ability to get advanced tests so
that I will be able to be screened for this disease which has claimed my
mother, my grandmother, my aunt, and two cousins. My insurance company is
currently telling me this is too expensive. I say how much is my life worth?
Finally, I could say I voted for Obama because he not only is white and
black, he is also blue and red. He may be the best candidate to actually
accomplish his platform promises. Presidential candidates often make many
promises, only to be unable to follow through. I believe Barack Obama is conciliatory
and will be able to work Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, even the most
staunch. The man simply knows how to work with people. Evidence: his campaign.
I could say I voted for Senator Barack Obama for these reasons. But that would be redundant.
Why I voted for Barack Obama?
I voted for Barack Obama, because we need change and because I have a big family, some in community college and two in high school and I can tell you we have suffered economically with the Bush administration, we have fought to get financial aid for my kids and still, we go with out, we struggle as a family economically, lost my job, in October of 2001 after 9-11, I could not get social security for a ongoing illness and fought the system for help and of course, being on welfare with my family for years, we have gone with out food for months becasue the welfare system said we made too much money, we live below the poverty level, but, I have fought the crooked system under the Bush administration the welfare system needs a change desperately, it's so unfair, I have worked many years, but because my family is so big I di not make enough, I even went back to school, but because of disabilities I could not finish, and now my husband can not find a job, it's a visous cycle, once on the system it's so hard to get off, it's like a way of life, but in my situation it is our life, because of medical needs, even so we try to work where ever and when ever to put our kids through school, but it;s degrading because of the welfare system, it discriminating, no matter what work we have done it was not enough for the county we owe so much money to them, but my goal is to work when I can and I can work around my medical needs I do so with the harrasement from social service, so far I have had three of my kids graduate from high school 2 in college and two in high school, we struggled to stay together my husband and I we had problems that kept us on aid, but through counseling and other means we have been able to focus on what is important it is our kids future they can have the education we did not have or was un-able to have for what ever reasons, we want this cycle to stop here with our kids but if finnancial aid is not available for them than the cycle will repeat itself, so my hope is the Barack Obama will make a change and make programs work for our kids and others to succeede, if it means more special ed teachers, more qualified teachers to help kids with learning disabilities so they do not fall behind and be left on the outside looking in most of these kids have potential like my kids, it;s not an excuse for my kids to say they can not be what they want to be if they try and work hard they can make it, it's now I hope they get the resources, it is my hope, I use to work for the elections as a election officer for about 15 years, because it was important for me to be part of the change and now my kids are of age they can vote and be part of the change . At first I though Barack Obama did not have a chance because of our system, like racisim and the fact that Al Gore won the Presidencey back in ?, but I feel the Republicans cheated Al Gore won, but because most Democrats are peace makers they let it go, that's why I thought it would happen again it did not I am happy, but let's not forget that there are people who do not like him I guess you can call them radicals or racist people, I know Barack Obama will have his hands full, with the mess that the Bush adminstration will leave for him, but I hope he does not forget about making real change, it's about time that big corporations and the very rich people contribute to everyone they need to know they do not live on this planet alone, it will be hard for them to let go of some of there so called hard working money(but try asking a disable person or a poor person to give money most of the time they do they give all they got and most of the time go with out, anyway I feel everyone who makes allot of money had some help either by inheritence or was able to go to school and earn a degree, or just was in the right place at the right, but we all know to be successful, you must have resources like education the means for an education and acces to programs, to help them over come some problems they have in keeping a job ,not just the blame game will do or passing the buck some people need help this is where the Republicans difer with Democrats, it's not all for me, it's about caring and sharing the wealth, it's not about people being lazy to work, it's about helping them to become self sufficient, it's not about blame, it's about humanity, it's not again about who has more again it's about spreading the wealth around so everyone---has a chance to live confortable, not just the exception, regardless everyone should see everyone as a opportunity, not a burden, like our welfare system, it stinks, I dread being on it, but I have to swallow my pride for my kids sake and take all the accusations all the put downs and all the unnessary back wash from the county, this has to stop most people can not help it. They need to live and eat just like everyone else, why are they any different than the rest, becasue they may have obsticals to over come, children might be in abusive homes or the women is being beaten and is foirced to stay with the man because welfare will not provide for her because of the stupid rules that are now in place it is a shame, for now I have over come the feeling of despair, because my kids are trying to be better than us and I can see them full of compassion and the desire to make it, it's tuff to keep a positive attitude it really is, you know the best thing I can say is when I became a parent regardles of our defects we manage ,I see that it is paying off, because when people said my kids would not graduate from, high school, or my kids are in special education they can not go to a university? why not so it takes them a little longer to learn they can still get the degree and attend a university if they do not give up they they were not smart enough because they were in spoecial education I told them to do the best they can and with the help of great special educational teachers and school physologist they made it this is what I mean about kids being left behind we must not let them fall short of who they can be, we should pay special educational teachers more money or at least the same as regular teachers most of them deserve it, it is hard to find a good teacher with good qualifications and when we do we pay them nothing, I am not ashame of my kids being in special educatiion they have had fantastic teachers who really care and have helped my family in so many ways I can not ask for more, I feel proud that they have graduated from high school and they passed the exit exam, it's ok if it was modified they still did it, I am proud of them, we are taking day by day, if everything my kids have seen us go throgh is teaching them to be differnet then us, than it is worth it, but things have to change, I hope Mr Obama will make some big changes. I was kind of giving up, I did not work the election this year, anyway, I voted for Barack Obama for real change, our economy, the war, to end the war asap and bring back our troops from harms way and I kniow Barack Obama is a peace maker, I know that he will not hesitate to use force if he had to but, he will have a hard time making peace with our enemies the the Bush administration started. I believe the Bush administration used force without diplomacy, they were bullies, wrong way to run a government, our enemies most of the time we can talk and talk and tlak with out force, but I believe Bush did not even try he went in and started a war he thhought was right, or was it just because he was a bully? well these are the reasons I pick Barack Obama---I know, he is human, he does not claim to be from a higher power, he is a man just like the rest of us, he does not claimed to be higher or God, I believ he believes God lives with in a individual and it is a individual belief not some kind of hero, or a unrealistic mirracle worker like President Bush, my hope is that he will respect other countries for there beliefs and not try to force them to make a change to be like us, because they are humans no matter what our differences are they still bleed like us, they eat like us and they have there own way of doing thins as long as they do not hurt anyone in the process than leave them alone to there own understanding if it may be
