"Talk Me Down"Well, I need talked down this morning. I woke up with this overwelming fear that this election might be stolen......again. I know that the polls say that Obama is ahead, still, but I can't shake this nagging fear. What is wrong with me? I live in the USA. We have a good system, a fair and democratic system, right? somebody give me a reason to believe that this feeling of mine is unfounded. I am really in need of some sane and rational thinking, here. you are in good company. I think many of us share your fears. Especially those of us who live in battleground states where there have been serious problems in the last several elections. I'm in Florida, no need to say more about our elections. All we can do now is make sure that everyone who wants to vote gets to the polls and then wait and see.
Sorry I can't seem to find a thing to say that might talk either of us down. That said you are in good company here. Welcome to the site.

I share your concern.
For me, it's hard not to be concerned after the last two elections
were stolen.
The best we can do is help get out the vote, and make sure the
votes are counted.
My SO is working as an inspector at one of our local polling places,
that's his job and he takes it very seriously!
One of his friends from the OC Registrar of Voters called to let him
know plenty of paper ballots would be available and to hand them out if
the lines get too long on election day!
That's a great idea!

The person from the OC Register is giving him the straight story? I ask because people have to see the clerk/registrar and show proper ID before they can get a ballot and no one could hand out ballots in the line to move things along faster with that system.

Di, they are required to get the signatures
and match the names to the roster, before handing out the ballots.
This method will only be used if the lines get too long ( HRS of waiting)
and/or it looks like the voters won't make it into the polling place
before closing.
OC is anticipating a huge turnout and has planned this very well.
We even had drive through voting for a day, which helped a lot
of voters with disabilities.
I live in Florida
and I voted early. To try to keep the lines moving, we got checked in and got a receipt from the computer, then we got our paper ballots. They have little cubbies to go and fill out your ballots, All of the little "cubbies" were being used and there was a long line, so the poll person gave us pencils and said we could fill out our ballots while we waited in line if we wanted. I did, because I really didn't care if anyone saw how I was voting. I am proud to be a Obama supporter.
