Why I am voting for Obama

I will vote for Obama because of what he represents.   He is an intelligent and articulate speaker and a deep thinker who is curious and inquisitive.  He surrounds himself with others who are his intellectual equal and who can offer him sound advice and counsel.  He is open to others and actively engages with others to hear what they have to say.  He is calm and even-keeled and able to keep his emotions in check.  He demonstrates personal integrity on every front, including his marriage.  He is open-minded and inclusive as well as principled.  His judgment is sound and he is not afraid to make difficult decisions.  He shows respect and compassion toward those in need.   In short, he possesses every characteristic of a good leader.   More importantly, he demonstrates the characteristics of a good human being.

Why I Am Voting For Obama

I'm voting for Obama because I believe in democracy and I love this nation. The United States may not be a perfect nation but it is a good nation and it deserves good leaders. I've heard it said that we, citizens of the United States, got the leaders we deserve because we voted for Bush/Cheney twice. I don't hold to that position. I am voting to demonstrate to my friends and family that good men can run for office. That my one vote counts for something, and that apathy cannot be allowed to reign supreme as it has for so many years.

I am voting for Obama because he asks us to work with him to improve our country. I have longed for someone whose politics demonstrated the power of working from the bottom upwards. Obama is that man. I have longed for a person to inspire me when things look bleak and hopeless and Obama does that. People who do not vallue words coupled with action miss the point of his candidacy.

ALSO, I am voting for Obama because he has the good sense to have a smart wife. Michelle Obama is a wonderful bonus as she is every bit as wise as Obama. They fulfill the Clintons' promise of two for the price of one.

I am voting for Obama because I value intelligence. I am a teacher, I am underpaid and over worked, and I worry about the anti-intellectual, skate by with the least amount of work that many students and people try to get by with.  Lastly, I am voting for Obama because I love words and when I hear Mr. Obama speak, I hear the great speakers from the past speaking to me once again.
