John McCain: The Door to Fascism
Democracy in the United States is clinging by its fingernails. The Bush administration has spent the last eight years laying the “legal” foundations for fascism. Significant measures along this dark road include the Patriot Act, the FISA bill, the repeal of habeas corpus, and a host of executive orders giving the president frightening dictatorial powers. At the same time, the Bush administration has been building the physical machinery of fascism, including domestic detention centers, a network of overseas prisons and torture centers, and most recently, the establishment of Northcom, a division of the US military with orders to serve within the United States (formerly prohibited under the Posse Comitatus Act).
The republicans are sending out their biggest loud mouths to tell America that Obama is a Marxist. Tonight on Chris Matthews Tom the bug man Delay is preaching that Obama is a Marxist and that he wants to destroy this country and shread our Constitution!
I ask you who is destroying our Constitution, right now, right in front of our very eyes? We need to get the truth out to everyone who thinks that they are undecided. Obama is not a Marxist and he does not have any desire to destroy our Constitution or America .
The republicans are getting desperate and desperate people often do very stupid and desperate things, but this is going way too far. The neocons are still in charge in DC and they want McCain as their next puppet. We can't let that happen.
A country that enters a severe economic crisis with a government of known fascist tendencies is almost certain to become fascist. This is the real danger of a McCain presidency: John McCain is a member of the party that has spent the last eight years preparing for and partially executing a full fascist takeover of the United States. We simply cannot risk having McCain at the helm as we face the coming crisis. John McCain would be all too likely to try to solve the crisis by resorting to extreme, dictatorial and radically undemocratic measures. Moreover, he would be surrounded by the same sorts of advisors who used George W Bush to enact a radical right-wing agenda. These same advisors would be all too happy to use the economic crisis as an excuse for a full takeover of political power.
We should also keep in mind that the Bush administration used threat of terrorism to build the present surveillance/security state, but there is compelling evidence that the real reason for its construction was a growing awareness on the part of the government and the ownership class of this nation that we are facing a severe economic downturn and that this might lead to significant domestic unrest.

Thanks Di. The
Thanks Di. The neoconservative, PNAC, AEI, path to Fascism can not be over-stated. This group of anti-Constitutional, anti-American traitors has worked very hard to hold our country hostage for the past few decades, beginning with the Raygun crowd. They will stop at virtually nothing in their crusade to take over our country, and install their own brand of a corporatist, aristocratic, theocracy.
Their open contempt for the Constitution of the United States of America belies their rhetoric of "spreading democracy" around the world. Their real agenda is nothing less than to control the world's resources through military adventurism. John McCain, along with Joe Lieberman, have been two of their biggest proponents. Along with Cheney and Rumsfeld, these traitors tried to convince the first George Bush, and then Bill Clinton, to invade and occupy Iraq. They finally succeeded with their current puppet, Dubya, and here we are today: the world's economy in shambles, our civil liberties under constant attack, while we continue to occupy a soverign nation.
Hopefully, the American People are finally able to see this group of criminals for what they actually are: greedy thieves, and in the truest sense, dangerous enemies from within.
If the BA has taught us one
If the BA has taught us one thing it is that they call us the nastiest names for what they are actually doing. Like the big government charge and the tax and spend old saw while they are spending us into a very deep hole.
Today Senator Martinez actually accused Obama of being a Communist likening him to Fidel Castro and went on to say that under an Obama presidency America would become like Cuba.
Do the American people know that Bush is paying the "radicals" in Iraq not to attack our troops? Do they know that Maliki is about to sign a treaty with GWB for our troops to stay in Iraq for another 3 years? Do they know that Bush has come very close to bankrupting our country, by putting his war on our credit card?
If Bush makes an agreement with Maliki to keep our troops there Obama will be held to that agreement? McCain has already told us that he will keep our troops there for "as long as it takes for victory". You notice McCain has not told us what he thinks a victory would look like.
I know I am raving. Sorry. The more I see and hear of John McCain and his minions the more angry and frightened I become.

I don't think Obama would be held to anything GW signs,
and I hope I'm correct here.At least he would have the power
to change it.
I'm worried about what last minute 'surprises" GW will pull
in the form of pardons.
I hope I'm wrong here.
I hope that everyone watched the Obama video
I hope that everyone watched the Obama video. It was great! :)

It sure was, Di!
I watched it both at 5 PDT on MSNBC and again
at 8 PDT on NBC.
It was one of the most moving, REAL accounts of
life in the US as it is today.
Not once did Obama resort to negative attacks,
nor did he mention McCain at all.
It was very well done!.
I hope everyone gets a chance to see it.
:)
Not certain
But I think that one president must honor anothers agreements. Of course he could renegotiate maybe if both parties wish to.

Recently, Dubya even tried
Recently, Dubya even tried to blackmail Maliki into signing the agreement, by stating that unless it is signed "as is," all military operations may cease as of December 31, 2008. Cut and run?
Here is an article that explains McShame's willful lack of understanding (or neocon spin) of the content of the proposed agreement:

Conservatives told us that Wall Street could go berserk, and that greed, masquerading as freedom, would take care of all of us via trickle down economics.
The Conservative claim that "Communism is bad so ANYTHING that is not Communism is correct" is bullshit.

You are so right, Di.( KO has a response)
The RW rhetoric used against Obama has been beyond the pale.
I wish I could say it better than Keith Olbermann in this 'Special Comment'
but I can't. ;-) Go Keith!- Our voice in the MSM.

Marxist
The BO tax plan explained for the proletariat. Result = the rich are not going to play and pay anymore. Why do you think the credit crunch/liquidity problems still exist after the government pumped in $trillions the past few weeks. They are keeping their money to themselves. Wouldn't you? BTW if you don't think this is Socialism/Marxism, a good read of the communist manifesto will remove all doubt. One of Marx's ten planks of a socialist society is a progressive tax plan.
Our Tax System Explained: Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.
But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.
So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'
'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too.
It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' 'That's true!!'
shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'
'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.
This says it all... ^ ... If you continue to give people money, and give them free stuff, all for sitting on their couch, or stoop, from the taxes of the working, lower, middle, and upper, there will be a rebilion. No pitch forks and fire, but planes leaving along with citizens to other countries. For the Obama fans, you do not need to worry. Every college in America is filled with raging liberals who have been brainwashed, along with the millions of other Americans, into thinking that Obama is the "Right" chioce. Obama will be elected. The only thing you need to worry about is running back and asking for forgiveness when Obama takes the American dream and throws it in the fire.
I'm not asking for a fight, just for you to say that you were wrong when Obama get elected, and unleashes the ravage beast that is the Obama Presidency. I am only 16, but I have looked past the Media and the propaganda that comes from it. Obama has spent more this month in T.V adds than Mcain has the entire race. What does that tell you. He is trying to brianwash everyone that is too lazy to think of their own oppion, and do any amount research.
The U.S. does not need irriational thinkers in washington, but ratinoal realist. Compare ancient Greece and Rome. If you know nothing about either, it is pointless to elaborate. I am only 16, like I said earlier, but I am duel enrolling with a local college and high school, because I care about my future, unlike 90% of the youth popluation, which I hope that everyone can agree on, is not looking bright. Anyway, there is a conncection between what needs to be done in order to protect freedom, and what can be done to make everyone happy. Not everyone can be happy. That's just the way it is. Tough love. Kill the enemy so our friends can find happyness.
I could go on, but I'm sure half of the people commenting on this didn't read past the first paragraph.
Hi Texas
or would you prefer playa? No matter it will probably be a short conversation between us.
Out of deference to your age and lack of experience I will try to be gentle.
This example you so proudly post is very old and not in any way original, but it is stupid and incoherent when faced with actual thought.
That aside Obama did not, I repeat did not propose anything like that kind of tax plan. Also you might know if you look at daddies income tax forms that we have a very complicated tax system that is cumbersome and not very fair. I assume that you do subscribe to some form of fairness in general.
As for the "man with the money" you might have noticed that he has taken his factory and gone long ago, but still receives "welfare payments" from our tax system. For those who stay it is because they are working the tax code in a way that it benefits them. Wasn't it Warren Buffet who was surprised to find out that his assistant paid more in taxes than he did? It didn't seem fair to him and he spoke out in favor of an Obama type rewrite of the tax code.
Hasn't GWB pretty much done that already? He lied us into a war for OIL while handing out tax breaks and giving no bid contracts to the top corporations in the country and put it all on YOUR credit card.
I don't have time right now to answer every thought you produced here, but would like to ask one final question. You say :
What do you mean when you say "protect freedom"? I am guessing that the line "Kill the enemy so that our friends can find happiness" is some form of sarcasm? If it isn't please tell us who the enemy is that you want to kill and how that would make anyone happy.

Di
Apparently the difference between Capitalism and Communism is a 35 percent top marginal tax rate versus a 39.5 percent one!
;)
I will let you know how
I will let you know how painful it really is, Jim ;)
I didn't expect a rebuttal from the kid, but at least we get a chance to think about his points. It is always interesting to hear how the freepers think [I am being kind to call it thinking]. I did enjoy your post, though.
"When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross." ~ Sinclair Lewis
cloud is a vet.
You've been underpaid.
We should be buying you that "beer", not placing you in that "bracket" ;)
Also, it does not seem to me that millionaires are the big problem. It's the tens-of-millions-to-billions crowd who are near immune to market forces, and who woefully underpay their taxes in proportion to the services rendered to them. When you own half a Nation, you should pay half the fee for defending it.
Regardless of the details (folks will always disagree) it's this knee jerk "Communism Bad, anything else is correct" mentality that has to be done away with.....along with the 5000 year earth notions.
You need to open the books.
My PhD is in Physics. My work is in Quantum Physics. Might you pause just a moment to consider anything more complicated than:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are only two questions involved here:
I'll be brief because so far you have only demonstrated arrogance, and an ignorance of fundamentals. It's not clear you have an interest in suspending conclusions before you get sufficient data. If you prove else wise, I will be happy to talk.
Presently they are not doing that. The troops extend economic Welfare to those at the top. Folks should pay for services rendered. By the way, these same Conservatives, who demand the Welfare above, also demand that the troops be paid below market wages, thereby extending even greater Welfare to those at the top.
Mechanisms of Stimulation
It should be obvious why Economies are NOT suppressed, but in fact STIMULATED by Proportionate Taxation. Let's first lay down the fundamentals.
Heresy you say! Hang in just a moment.
(Of course it could be countered by an equal or better stimulus the tax dollars illicit, but we'll consider this a perturbation).
Now please note that MOST businesses do none of the above.
In addition to the above:
As you read, please do not bounce around between the question of (ethics) and (stimulative versus suppressive).
They are two separate questions. Is it moral? Does it stimulate?
A priori, it could be immoral but stimulative OR immoral and suppressive OR moral and stimulative OR moral and suppressive.
Jim
P.S. Take a look at that orange sliver and remember that those folks make up nearly half of our standing armies. So watch that crap you post about taxes and walking into a bar.
One segment that is often
One segment that is often overlooked, is the Federal Government as an employer/client. As the nation's largest "direct hire" employer, and a large client to many private enterprise contractors, the Federal Government does more to directly "stimulate" the economy than ANY private enterprise entity.
State, City, and County governments account for another large segment of direct-hire employers. These two segments of the national economic engine directly return taxpayer money to the common kitty through wages, and yes, they even generate their own tax revenues. Is this Marxism, or Socialism? Not in the least -- it is American-style regulated Capitalism.
To say that a well-run government only taxes the People, and gives little in return, is ludicrous. When the "government," as represented by the borrow and spend neoconservatives, place our common debt in hock to a foreign country (China?) the maintenance fees on that debt soak up the revenue that should rightfully be returned to the American People through wages and services.
No one needs a degree in economics or political science to understand the folly of incurring huge debts without the income, or ability, to pay it off within a reasonable amount of time.
I'm the government.
Thanks for elaborating Bill. I did not bother, but just noted in the post above:
"Of course it could be countered by an equal or better stimulus the tax dollars illicit, but we'll consider this a perturbation"
The chicken shits come from a position of the government is "out there" rather than the government is "We The People", but ONLY on Economic matters.
Everywhere else the flat earth folks want government in our bedrooms, in the pulpit, etc.
They also come from mid level hack positions believing without knowing. For @@@@@@@ sake, learn a discipline, then look at the market. IT OFTEN PRODUCES CRAP AND AT A LOUSY PRICE. At other times the Market is brilliant. We could go into when and why if our poster would like.
Taxes are not for beer.
Ridiculous
The rich benefit the most from our economy. Shouldn't they pay proportionatly. Right now very few people control most of the wealth here in america. What is it the top 500 control 40% of the nations wealth. someone correct me if I'm wrong. Nations that don't correct this folly collapse period. I think that why the economy has been sucking air besides all the deregulation that allowed the fat cats to get fatter. Less and less money is circulating around to all. Its spinning around at the top. So much for trickle down economics bull.
Ole
See an excerpt below from a millionaire businessman/entrepreneur with decency and common sense who agrees with the point you began with.
Lazy Bums
You are espousing "Winner Take All".
That is a return to Monopolies and Monarchs. The inertia of wealth drives markets in that direction. Countering forces become ever less effective with conglomeration and collusion.
So tell me TexasPlaya91 why do YOU demand monopolies be broken?
Why do YOU demand that patents have time limits?
What, you are not smart enough to develop, for example, Magnetic Resonance Imaging devices, but you demand that you get in on the gravy train anyway? Why not let the "Winners" simply demand anything they please? FOREVER.
Are you a Lazy Bum as you have called our soldiers, their families, our scientists, men who labor with their muscles, etc.?
Are we ready to actually converse? Or do you still understand everything?
Jim
TexasPlaya91/ Conservatives call our troops lazy bums.
Note that Cops, Soldiers, etc. ARE the people that share that orange sliver.
For your edification, beyond what is obvious in the ancient rhetoric you are parroting:
If you demand that only Free For All market forces be used within an economy then you ask Soldiers to stop soldiering. You ask Scientists to stop researching. Etc. And you demand that they quickly, instead, build start ups to compete with giant implicit monopolies. This is of course asinine and extremely harmful to an economy.
What Soldiers, Scientists, etc. do demand, while eschewing whining for ever increasing pay increases, is that a few simple things be accomplished via cooperation:
I might add texasplaya91 that you are fully entrenched in the victim mentality. For anyone to moan about how -Cops, Soldiers, Scientists, Engineers, Construction Workers, etc. are lazy and THAT is why it's so tough on you, a shining star, is just lame.
You are being readied to have your head up your bosses dairy aire for the rest of you life. Don't do as you boss tells you to do, do what you boss does! THAT is how you rise about mid level hackdom.
From that height you will not feel the need to put the vast majority (who provide the laboring, soldering, and most of the innovation) down. Be a man, not a Conservative. (Who I might add, have left our troops to rot in perpetual Stop Loss because while they still vote for inane military policy they fail to actual enlist!)
Jim
Libertarian and conservative readers: This is for you...
-Do not mistake the above for disagreement with simple libertarian and conservative truths.
-Do not mistake it even for disrespect of libertarian and conservative opinions, on matters which have no correct answer.
In the above discussion the bar is set at simply doing away with blanket statements. For example, things like, "competition ALWAYS leads to EVERYTHING being better than cooperation does".
Further, even if a thought experiment leads one to understand that the blanket statement is false, it may also be true that intervention via cooperation (e.g. via the voting booth) may be so heavy handed that the results are worse.
Again, they key is for us all to get away from demonstrably false blanket statements. It is understood that on matters of opinion we will continue to disagree. (That part may be genetic ;)
Jim
