Pushing for Health Coverage in Denver

From Jonathan Singer

As many of you are aware, the DNC Platform Committee will be meeting on August 9th to determine a Platform which we will ratify at the Convention.

Several nationally prominent Obama and Clinton Superdelegates including Rep.
John Conyers (D-Mich.), Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.) are supporting a Healthcare for All plank.

These Superdelegates are asking for all Delegates (Super or not) to sign onto this Healthcare plank ASAP. I have been told that the Platform drafting committee will start meeting this weekend, and I would love to see Colorado Delegates take a stand for Healthcare. Just like we are trying to be the greenest delegation, let's also try to be the healthiest.

Any delegate can go online and become a signer at:

Three years ago I was one of those 47 million Americans without healthcare.
I was a daycare worker and missed several days of work due to an illness (it turns out kids carry germs). My job would not cover it, and I had no sick days. It was a tough month to make rent. I was just happy that I could find a nurse who was willing to see me for free. Many others are not as lucky. I was one major illness or accident from not only financially bankrupting myself, but also my family who would have spent every last dime to keep me alive and well.

Please consider signing, and if you are interested in taking a more active role, you can email me back at singerjonathan@yahoo.com

Attached is a their press release scheduled to come out today.

Thanks,
Jonathan Singer

PS don't forget to sign

Below is an excerpt of an email I received from a California Delegate and a link to his article featured on Common Dreams

"The platform process is underway. There’s no time to lose.

Here’s how you can help change history:

Join three visionary progressive members of Congress--convention delegates John Conyers, Jim McGovern and Lynn Woolsey--who are initial signers of the “Statement in Support of Guaranteed Health Care for All as a Plank in the Democratic Party Platform of 2008.” Any delegate can go online and become a signer at:
http://pdamerica.e-actionmax.com/takeaction.asp?aaid=3410

It urges the convention to adopt a plank in the 2008 party platform to “guarantee accessible health care for all” in the United States, to “create a single standard of high quality, comprehensive, and preventive health care for all”--and to “eliminate financial barriers that prevent families and individuals from obtaining the medically necessary care they need.”

Can this strategy make a difference? That depends on whether you respond to this email or just set it aside. The more delegates who become signers of the statement, the more difficult it will be for the usual corporate forces to prevail with their opposition to the principle of guaranteed comprehensive healthcare for all in the United States.

In every area of this country, elected delegates for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are preparing for their trips to Denver. But it’s not enough for them to have plane tickets and hotel reservations. In the next few days, we need them to sign the Statement in Support of Guaranteed Health Care for All as a Plank in the Democratic Party Platform.

Let’s make it a truly historic document--one that changes history. Together, we can make the difference.

Impeachment

It seems to me that Pilosi should not have the right to contradict the Constitution. The 'money' trail should be investigated starting with the Reagan administration up until now. The facts printed in newspapers, tv news. Get in touch with PBS, or NPT, the Nashville PBS channel, and ask them about the piece they did this past weekend about what happened. I watched it, it was very enlightening.

I am so tired of the Republican Party doing what they want, and getting away with it. They have destroyed our middle classe, and now, our country.

Something needs to be done.
