Why won't YOUR representative sign on for impeachment?I've read lots of reasons why particular congressional representatives won't support impeachment. Some are quite speculative and personal about a representative, and others are quite general, like "He/she supports Bush all the way." Others politics over the Constitution. So, here's a chance to tell what you know about why your congressional representative won't support impeachment.
Be sure to include the name and if possible the congressional district of your representative. Let's bring their reasons out in the open to see if the reasons conform to the Constitution, or are basically self-serving or self-dealing. And while we're at it, please check out Representative Kucinich's petition for impeachment which he'll personally present. Find it at: http://www.kucinich.us/ and forward the link to your family and friends. Midnight tonight 7/31/08 is the deadline! Hurry! Make YOUR voice heard for accountability and the rule of law!

From Jim McDermott (WA-7)
Dear (name),
Thank you for contacting me regarding impeachment for George W. Bush, of high crimes and misdemeanors. I appreciate knowing your views on this matter, and I share your outrage over the conduct of the Bush Administration.
This administration has insistently pursued provocative actions that have threatened civil liberties, undermined the rule of law, and jeopardized our international standing. I believe that the President has egregiously violated the public trust, placing himself above the law and beyond its constraints.
However, Congress must also confront the very real and immediate problems facing the American people today. When impeachment proceedings began against President Clinton, everything else stopped. I want to show that the Democratic-led Congress can accomplish things - raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment compensation (which we've done), as well as ameliorating the mortgage crisis and gas prices. I believe we cannot fail to address these pressing issues by diverting our energy to an impeachment effort which may be noble but will ultimately fail, leaving the Administration feeling vindicated.
Please know that I struggle with this issue every day, weighing what is practical and useful against what I think this Administration deserves. I appreciate hearing your views.
Sincerely,
Jim McDermott
Member of Congress
McDermott, like other
McDermott, like other cowards in Congress, is purposely ignoring "the very real and immediate problems" facing the Constitution today.
These traitors are placing politics and the upcoming election above the Rule of Law, and above securing the future of this nation. The real "problems facing the American people today" are the erosion of the Rights and Freedoms guaranteed by the very Constitution they ignore.
Impeachment is not "noble" -- it is the right thing to do, and is mandated by our Constitution. Protection of American freedoms is much more important than his "I want to show the American people..." political posturing.
The problems facing the American People are the fault of McDermott and other members of Congress for not performing their primary function of overseeing this runaway neoconservative dictatorship. It is this utter lack of oversight which has led to the problems they are now attempting to "fix" for political gain.
