21st Century GI Bill

Georgia 1st Congressional District Democratic candidate Bill Gillespie and State Party Chair Jane Kidd were in Savannah on Monday fighting for vet benefit increases and challenging Republican John McCain's lack of support on veteran issues. Way to go Jane and Bill, our troops need all the help we they can get. Its time to start taking care of our veterans when they come back and provide them the educational opportunites and medical care they deserve.

Thank you, Michael.

For your service and bringing attention
to this important GI Bill.

It is beyond me why McCain, a former POW,
has refused to support this.

Here is a direct link to the petition
demanding he co-sponsor the new GI Bill.

Moore implements 'affirmative action' measure to help area vets

Michael Moore helps our vets, once again.

TRAVERSE CITY -- It's no secret that Michael Moore is among the country's most outspoken critics of the war in Iraq.

What's far lesser-known is Moore's empathy for the troops who've fought there.

Moore, founder of the Traverse City Film Festival that owns the State Theatre downtown, said the theater is implementing a new labor policy requiring all its contractors and vendors to attempt to hire veterans who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moore described it as an "affirmative action" measure to help area veterans find employment opportunities when they return home -- opportunities that Moore said are severely lacking for many servicemen and women.

"Instead of receiving our veterans with open arms when they come back, they get 'Sorry chump, there's nothing for you,'" said Moore, who's hired military veterans for key editing and production positions for his documentaries, including "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Sicko."

"This isn't a political stance," he said. "We're a community-based organization and (veterans) need to know people in this community will do their best to help them find work."

Moore said part of his motivation to help veterans stems from his father, who served in the Marines and fought in the South Pacific during World War II.

"When he came back, he was able to go school, he was able to buy a house ... it's not like that anymore," Moore said. "Being the kid of a veteran, you're aware of this."

On the campaign trail!

Did you notice that McCain was conveniently on the campaign trail when the 21st Century GI Bill was voted on???He didn't have the intestinal fortitude to return to Washington to vote. AWOL...Seems to be a trait of these recent Republican politicians. Just like Bush being AWOL in Nam!

Yes, wasn't it quite

Yes, wasn't it quite convenient that he couldn't make it. Everyone else made it except Kennedy and another senator that was attending a funeral. Despicable Senator McCain. At least the bill passed, now just have to worry about W. But not really because the bill will get the 2/3. However, check out Bill Gillespie at billforgeorgia.com, he's the man stepping up for our vets.

Our Heroes

Part of the problem is that the current administration and many of our "leaders" are users.  They use people to do their dirty work or whatever it is they are unable or scared to do.  They talk of duty and honor but only in order to use people as if just another resource.  And they use up all our resources without fear of consequence.  Our soldiers know everything about real duty and honor and sacrifice everything for what they believe is right.  And these people use that for their political agendas or corporate agendas rather than our real security.  Our heroes, for these sacrifices deserve every consideration when they return and should be afforded every possible benefit.  The word hero though is only an after thought for the "leaders".  We need to ask where it is they are leading us and is it really in "our" best interest.  And when a hero is sent out at great sacrifice it needs to be for something really really necessary.  And when a hero comes home they need to treat him/her as a hero and respect them as a human being and respect what they have gone through for them and for us.  And if god forbid a hero does not make it home then they need to honor them by honoring their families who have been left behind and support them in some honorable way so that they may get by and overcome their losses.  Duty and honor is a two way street.  And if our heroes must sacrifice for our country in the name of duty and honor, then our "leaders" must serve our heroes with duty and honor for their needs when they return.  There is a saying that many toss around without knowing the true meaning of and the "leaders" use it quite a lot but without meaning sometimes.  That saying is this: " Do The Right Thing", and hey "leaders" the message is "Do The Right Thing" because it IS the right thing to do.
