House Progressives STOP $163B for Iraq Occupation!
We won!!! 149 Members (147 Democrats and 2 Republicans) voted against $163B in Iraq occupation funds, and only 141 Members voted for it. (Roll Call below).
Those 149 no votes were the result of your protests, emails, and calls - congratulations!!!
Speaker Pelosi knew a majority of Democrats opposed the funds, but she pushed the vote anyway, assuming Republicans would provide the votes needed to approve the funds. But 132 Republicans decided to vote "present" to protest the outrageous and un-democratic procedures Pelosi used to bring the bill to the floor. According to Politico,
Many liberal Democrats, overjoyed that the measure failed, burst into applause after the vote was brought to a close. “The war is over!” screamed Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) on the House floor.
Of course, this is just a temporary win. The Senate will vote on funding, and if it passes the Senate, it will come back to the House. So call your two Senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them both to vote no on Iraq occupation funds.
And if your House Representative voted against the funds, please call 202-224-3121 to thank him or her!

Update 1: Are the newest Democrats conservative, as BlueDogs argue? Howie Klein provides a great breakdown of the freshmen:
The most credible freshman on the Iraq war, the only one to have served in it, is Patrick Murphy, a right-of-center moderate from Pennsylvania. Murphy voted against Emanuel, Hoyer, Bush, McCain and Cheney. He voted against the prolongation of the war Emanuel, Hoyer, Bush, McCain and Cheney are so adamant to keep going. Patrick was joined by Democratic freshmen Mike Arcuri (NY), Bruce Braley (IA), Kathy Castor (FL), Yvette Clarke (NY), Steve Cohen (TN), Joe Courtney (CT), Keith Ellison (MN), John Hall (NY), Phil Hare (IL), Mazie Hirono (HI), Paul Hodes (NH), Hank Johnson (GA), Steve Kagen (WI), Ron Klein (FL), Dave Loebsack (IA), Jerry McNerney (CA), Chris Murphy (CT), Ed Perlmutter (CO), Carol Shea-Porter (NH), Albio Sires (NJ), Jackie Speier (CA), Niki Tsongas (MA), Peter Welch (VT) and John Yarmuth (KY). The Democratic freshmen-- of all ideological stripes-- voted in greater proportions against the war than the Democratic caucus as a whole did. Emanuel fed Hulse bad information and, lazy hack that he is, Hulse just ate it up and farted it out, as he always does.
Almost the only Democratic freshmen-- along with newcomers Cazayoux and Foster-- who voted to prolong the war were the ones who routinely rubber stamp Bush and frequently vote with the GOP minority: Jason Altmire (PA), Nancy Boyda (KS), Chris Carney (PA), Joe Donnelly (IN), Brad Ellsworth (IN), Gabby Giffords (AZ), Baron Hill (IN), Nick Lampson (TX), Tim Mahoney (FL), Harry Mitchell (AZ), Ciro Rodriguez (TX), Joe Sestak (PA), Heath Shuler (NC), Zach Space (OH), Tim Walz (MN) and Charlie Wilson (OH).

Insider Information?
I saw this being posted yesterday 05/18/2008 in Abilene TX.
those darn gnomes carveourbush.com
To stop the War before Nov 4, Do Something Different, Quickly!
On AfterDowningStreet.org Joe Walsh said what we in Colorado
have been thinking.
"Stop celebrating and get back to work to end the damn funding of this madness.
We have accomplished nothing--yet!"
Except,
we believe that unless we can force the House Democrats to hold Impeachment Hearings
prior to the November Election,
the wars will go on and on regardless of
who wins the White house and
Cheney and Bush will escape all accountability
for the killing of 4,000 US Soldiers
(and who knows how many Iraqis)
and the maiming of 30,000 plus
and the rape of our US Treasury.
Everything we have done to cause the end of the war and impeachment has been Ignored By Pelosi
and the House Democrats.
It is time we did something different. QUICKLY!!!!
That "difference" is aggressive negative campaigning against House Democrats who will not immediately come out in support of Impeachment Hearings.
If they do not hold hearings on impeachment and do not stop the funding they are not our friends. Stop babying them!
We need to force impeachment hearings Now! In the latest news we see that House Judiciary Chairman Conyers has subpoenaed Karl Rove
http://www.opednews.com/maxwrite/link.php?id=59968
Great But?
Bush doesn't want Rove testifying because sooner or later he will utter a lie that will entrap him and drag Cheney and Bush into an Impeachment Hearing where no one will be able to cry "executive privilige".
Once the impeachment hearings start, because there is so much evidence that is publicly known, there will be no other result than the Judiciary Sub-Committee On The Constitution voting H Res 799/333 out to the full Judiciary Committee for debate. In 1973 this is where the Republicans asked Nixon to resign.
This is what is needed ASAP, before the election.
The worry is that Conyers and Pelosi are just posturing for political advantage prior to the election.
The fact that Conyers delayed Rove's testimony to mid July is I think the tip off. I suspect he is still trying to run out the clock on holding Cheney and Bush accountable by impeachment. (If not, my apologies to Conyers)
Aggressive negative campaigning against Democrats will force the hand of House Democrats and make them hold Impeachment Hearings.
In Colorado we have found that our Democratic Congressmen are very sensitive to the linking of their name to the word "traitor" even in "traitor to his oath to protect Our Constitution".
Using the word "corrupt" also works. As in "if we all know that Cheney and Bush are corrupt, and Congressman Udall refuses to support impeachment hearings, does it follow that Congressmen Udall is also Corrupt?"
Use your imagination and have fun with this tactic.
This is a powerful weapon against Democratic Congressmen who are in tight races.
Even where the Democrat is quite safe they will respond to this tactic. Colorado Congressman DeGette's staff were livid recently when a local anti-war leader appeared to question her credibility on repeatedly not being present for Iraq War funding votes. They reportedly went ballistic over the implication.
We refer you to these articles at OpEdNews.com that will explain what we are doing in Colorado to force impeachment.

Join us,
We, You and I have the power to hold Cheney & Bush accountable
but You Have To Use it.
Your edge is the Democrats fear of losing a veto proof Democratic Congress (so they individually will not have to take risks).
Your Power is Your Willingness to Threaten The Re-election of Democratic Congressmen. Use it and the War will end.
Don't use it and the war will go on and Cheney and Bush will escape accountability and all future Presidents will use Bush's expanded imperial powers. And we'll have lots of new wars.
