"Daybreak urgently reminds us that good political intentions are not sufficient to ensure the continuation of our democracy; informed vigilance is vital to that task."

I have found myself with something of a sense of sheer despair in watching the complete avoidance in Washington, of those (including President Obama and staff) who are prepared to aggressively pursue these existing issues of multiple past crimes by the entire Bush administration.
The thing that I fear most, is the very clear and present danger that unless these past crimes are clearly and openly addressed, and unless all of those (regardless of party affiliation) are called to answer for their parts in those various crimes and multiple gross violations of the United States Constitution; we are left wide open to yet greater and far more dangerous abuses by some present and/or future administration.
There has been no other time in the history of this nation that I am aware of, that there has been such blatant and gross criminal violations of our most basic constitutional directives... There has been no other time in the history of this nation when there has been such gross disregard for human rights, the Geneva Convention, etc; and all of those things have and continue to go unaddressed by this present administration.
What does this say to the rest of the world? What does it speak of this "new" America that has apparently come into being? What does it say for those traditional values in terms of the sacredness of life, the value of each and every human being, of the very most basic ideals and most closely held values that have made this nation great? And how long will any imagine it to endure, should it be that this present course goes unchecked and unchallenged?
