Iraq Town Hall Scheduled
Town Hall Meeting in Madison, WI on Friday April 25 from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm at the Grand Hall at Capital Lakes, formerly Meriter Main Gate at 333 West Main St.
Sami Rassouli will be the featured speaker. Sami says, "As an embedded first-hand witness in Iraq...I want to share stories the American public is not aware of and the mainstream media is not telling." Sami will be sharing his perspective on the situation in Iraq with audiences in nine Wisconsin cities. Sami was born in Iraq, emigrated to the U.S. at age 27, and has spent his life here building a successful small business in Minneapolis. After the 1991 Gulf war, Rasouli became increasingly concerned about the plight of the Iraqi people. The following years of harsh economic sanctions and the 2003 U.S. invasion have strengthened his resolve to act as an Iraqi- American peacemaker. He has traveled to Iraq frequently, and spoken to many audiences in the Midwest, offering a unique perspective on the U.S. occupation of his home country.
There will also be a question and answer period where Senator Kohl, Senator Feingold, and Congresswoman Baldwin or their representatives will have the opportunity to hear directly from their constituents. We are especially concerned about the $100 billion plus supplemental funding bill that will be before Congress in the next few weeks. Similar town hall meetings are being organized all over the country to call for an end to the funding for the illegal and immoral war and occupation in Iraq. We are relying on our elected representatives in Congress to bring an end to the madness in Iraq. The meeting in Madison is being sponsored by Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, the United Nations Association – Dane County Chapter, Hiroshima-Nagasaki Exhibition Committee, Madison Pledge of Resistance and other groups.
