The Center for American Progress and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America are hosting the Washington, D.C. Premiere of the critically acclaimed documentary BODY OF WAR Featured Guests:
Tomas Young, a 26-year-old veteran and Kansas City native, was shot and paralyzed from the chest down after serving in Iraq for less than a week. His inspiring story is told in the critically-acclaimed documentary Body of War, produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro with original songs from Eddie Vedder. Body of War premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last September 11, to unanimous praise. Richard Corliss of Time called it "a superb documentary... almost unbearably moving," while Fox News raved that the film is "riveting." The New York Times website described the film as a "heart-wrenching and yet deeply affirming story, both a testament to one man's enduring inner strength and a towering condemnation of a localized conflict." Body of War was named "Best Documentary of 2007" by the National Board of Review (previous winners include An Inconvenient Truth and Bowling for Columbine). There is also a companion double-CD, Body of War: Songs that Inspired an Iraq War Veteran featuring songs from Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and many others. Body of War began a nationwide theatrical release in March in Kansas City and Austin, with April and May dates to include New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Louis. Film opens in Washington, D.C. on April 4 at the E Street Cinema. www.bodyofwar.com and www.bodyofwarmusic.com or contact Patricia at patricia@renewcomm.com or call (301) 887-1060.
