A reason to keep pressing on...White House: Congress Caving To ‘The Fantasies Of Left-Wing Bloggers’
After the Senate banned waterboarding yesterday, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino claimed the “left wing” was trying to overtake the intelligence community:
Perino also attacked Congress for holding a contempt of Congress vote on White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers instead of expanding Bush’s surveillance powers:
The line is a familiar one. When the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington revealed that the White House had destroyed millions of e-mails, Perino shrugged them off as the accusations of a “left-wing” group — but she later backtracked. Congress’s priorities are reflected by the will of the public. A recent CNN poll showed that 68 percent of Americans said waterboarding was torture, and 58% said the U.S. should not use the technique. A January ACLU poll found 57 percent of likely voters opposed telecom immunity, compared to just a third who supported it.

Dubya's constant use of the
Dubya's constant use of the strawman phrase "some say..." is being replaced by "the left wing is..." which is what he really meant all along. Beginning with the Raygun crowd, we have allowed the neocons to villify traditional American Liberalism with vague references to so-called Left Wing anti-American extremism, and allusions to Communism.
Now that their anti-Constitutional brand of fascist neoconservatism has been revealed for what it actually is, they become like cornered animals with fangs and claws bared for all the world to see. When truly patriotic Middle Americans stand up to their barely concealed attempts to replace the Constitution of the United States of America with corporatist fascism, they fall back on the only defense they know: fear-mongering and lies.
We need more Democrats in Congress who will stand up for our Constitution and put an end, once and for all, to the neoconservative PNAC movement, and its perpetrators.
