Who can beat all the Pugs
Most of you know I am not a big fan of polls but this one caught my eye. According to NYT/CBS only Edwards can beat any of the current GOP candidates.
According to the latest poll all three top Dems can beat Guliani but Edwards beats him by the widest margin. All three can beat Romney but again, Edwards has the widest margin. All three would beet Huckabee and again Edwards has the widest margin. When it comes to McCain, he would beat Clinton but loose to Obama and loose big to Edwards.
On a national scale it looks like Edwards might be our best bet to take back the White House.

At least Edwards has
At least Edwards has apologized for his vote on the "let's invade Iraq" Bill, and appears to have severed ties with the DLC. Those are positive steps, and much more than we can say for Hillary.
If he can survive Hillary's and Obama's well-funded attacks, and negative campaigning, he may be the one who can carry the General Election for us.
If only he can get some media attention

I agree
With the poster and with Bill. Those CNN numbers should open all our eyes. Not only does he beat every single Repug, he simply DEMOLISHES them at an average of 16 points!! I mean, he beats the new Repug frontrunner Huckabee by 25 pts.!! He demolishes Romney, Giuliani, and beats McCain soundly.
I know Edwards made mistakes in the past, but he is trying to make up for them. He offers us by far the most Progressive platform with the most hope for Democrats. He is trying to lead our party in developing a much needed backbone.
I hate to say it but the other two frontrunners offer me no hope whatsoever for anything other than another DLC Administration with no backbone, that will constantly stab us in the back over every little issue, and be too timid to take the Republicans on, and will accept their idiotic framing of every issue.
Many Democrats have been decrying the fact that our party simply will not develop a backbone. Well, how do we expect them to if we don't develop one ourselves and support a candidate who wants one?
These CNN poll numbers show that a candidate can proudly run on the ideals of our party and attract people. I think his numbers are so high against the Repugs because he is not afraid to distiguish our vision from theirs, and voters really want a choice between Democrat and Republican, not which Democrat can be most Republican.
Not my first choice
In MY perfect world, of those actually running, Joe Biden would be leading the race for Democratic Nominee but it ain't my perfect world. Reality tells me it is a waste of time for me to do much more than put my verbal support behind Biden but it sure looks like Edwards would be a good bet for my verbal and financial support. I certainly like his answers to hard questions a lot better then either Clinton or Obama. I like the fact that he is man enough to admit his mistakes and most importantly, LEARN from them. I don't want another president that is so inflexible and so lacking in self confidence that he refuses to change his mind even when confronted with irrefutable evidence that he was wrong.
Unless things change drastically in the near future I will be throwing my support for Edwards. However, living in Florida, my support may not be worth much if the DAMN DNC gets their way.

Latest wrinkle, and it is a big one, is that everyone will be mandated to buy healthcare. Their proof of healthcare is to be submitted to the IRS along with their tax returns. If there is no proof accompanying the tax return, the IRS will be empowered to GARNISH wages to pay for the healthcare.
If true, Edwards is still working for the for-profit healthcare corps.

Well it's over. Have you ever sat through something that was both boring and painful at the very same time? I mean much worse than a grade school music recital, that you know will soon end. Seldom did they answer the question that was asked. As some of our good old boys would say, "they answered at the questions". [That is, I gather, like shooting at something with no intention of hitting it.] I got the impression that they all had a few well rehearsed answers that they wanted to get out there and the mere mention of their own name triggered one of those responses, like the lotto barrel spitting out winners at random.
It was boring because they are boring, self-aggrandizing, pretentious little people. Bottom line this gal would not want to have a beer with any of them!

Mandatory insurance
Ginch my old friend, I am not sure where you heard or read that Edwards would have the IRS police mandatory healthcare. I have read quite a bit on the Edwards health plan and did not see that. However, if there is a universal health care program there are very limited ways to fund it. It has to be paid for either by the government (socialized medicine) or by the people (insurance companies). To do that, part of the package as to be some form of forcing the issue. Here is a direct quote from the Edwards website:
"Finally: Individual Responsibility. Once insurance is affordable, everyone will be expected to take responsibility for themselves and their families by obtaining health coverage. Some Americans will obtain coverage from public programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP and others will get coverage through their jobs. Other families can buy insurance through the regional Health Care Markets. Special exemptions will be available in cases of extreme financial hardship or religious beliefs.
The emphasis on shared responsibility builds on Edwards' past proposals to insure all children through shared responsibility and contain health care costs. In 2004, his plan would have made children's health insurance affordable and required parents to purchase coverage for their children. Today, he proposes to expand that approach to make coverage universal."

As I said, the thread about Edward's...
healthcare and the connections to the IRS was on one thread at DU. I did not link it because it was not on his website.
We have a single-payer healthcare program going now. It is called Medicare. At the state level, medicaid.
It is one thing for a guy with 50 million bucks to stand up for personal responsibility, it is quite another to expect the poorest amongst us to pony up whatever a mandatory program would cost.
If he does intend to link with IRS and provide the garnishment of income, then he is out in left field.
That would be the last straw for the poor whose old car battery just expired, the roof leaks, the kid fell out of the tree and broke his arm etc etc.
A garnishment would total that family.
If this is true, then we certainly need to know it. If untrue, then we need to know that as well. Then we can look for whoever is behind it.

Would it be legal
to use the IRS to control a national healthcare program. Plus, the overview on his website specifically references affordability and financial assistance for the poor.
