Edwards and TradeDavid Sirota and Jonathan Tasini both have blogs out this morning celebrating John Edwards' denunciation of corporate trade agreements and opposition to new ones. Both paint Edwards as a ferocious opponent of NAFTA. But neither of these bloggers mentions the fact that Edwards stood on stage in Soldier Field and joined every other candidate except Dennis Kucinich in affirming that he would NOT end NAFTA. He would try to "fix it." Now, you can try to make an argument for prefering Edwards to Kucinich, but you should do so honestly, not by celebrating Edwards' halfway stance on each issue while omitting Kucinich's principled stand shoulder to shoulder with us.

NAFTA or not?
Edwards supported the attack on Iraq too. So did Howard Dean, on CSPAN, when they announced their run for President.
Edwards has always said, he supported NAFTA but in a "fair trade" manner. How can we enforce our laws in other countries? The WTO has not punished Enron, Halliburton, or Exxon have they? Or what about child labor and selling of human organs by certain WTO members? That is labor and trade policy. The WTO is full of lawless people.
It should be obvious to all with our huge trade deficit that we can't do "fair trade" for America since most trade agreements have been bad for us in the end. The American people oppose the WTO and want out of it. They even said so in the 2006 elections. It was one of the forgotten mandates. Yet the press ignores it (except Lou Dobbs of CNN).
Bush's "WTO trade puppet" got angry when the Senate demanded better trade agreements and more open ones. She announced she was doing very well and to stop "insulting" her job performance. Seems they (Bush agency heads) get up there before the people (and their representatives) and act insulted that we would guestion anything they did in our "best interest".
Sorry we have a right to demand better policy and proformance since we pay for it (and suffer if it is done poorly). Our livelood depends on it. You know...food on the table and "kids on our food" (not my term but Bush's)!
Bush picks women to be his final Czars when all goes bad. Don't you just picture Cheney, Rove, and Bush laughing their heads off when they picked "General Betrayus" for Defence. Both Secretary of Treasury and the WH Press as "Snow"? Or Browie as FEMA head?
Do we need to connect lie detectors to them to know if they are telling the truth when they run for office? Their lies and betrayal have been of historic proportions in the last few years.
