Ray McGovern to Speak on Impeachment
A forum on the possible impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney will be held on Sunday, October 7 at 2 p.m. in auditorium of Monroe-Woodbury High School, 155 Dunderberg Road, Central Valley.
Keynote speaker Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst, will present information regarding impeachable offenses by the President and Vice-President. A panel of representatives of sponsoring organizations will also give brief statements about their activities in the Hudson Valley.
Ray McGovern’s career as a CIA analyst spanned 27 years—from the administration of John F. Kennedy to that of George H. W. Bush. His responsibilities at CIA included chairing National Intelligence Estimates under presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter, and preparing the President’s Daily Brief under presidents Nixon, Ford, and Reagan.
At his retirement ceremony, McGovern received the Intelligence Commendation Medallion. On March 2, 2006, he returned the medallion in a symbolic effort to dissociate himself from CIA participation in torture.
McGovern currently writes and talks on “Speaking Truth to Power” for Tell the Word, the publishing arm of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour in Washington, DC.
He is also active in Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, an organization he and several others created. VIPS now includes 61 former intelligence professionals concerned that intelligence information has been and is being manipulated. McGovern’s articles and op-eds have appeared in The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, The Miami Herald, and The International Herald Tribune.
McGovern holds a B.A., summa cum laude, from Fordham College, an M.A. in Russian Studies from Fordham University, a certificate in Theological Studies from Georgetown, and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He served two years as a U.S. Army infantry/intelligence officer.
