"Startling" is much too
"Startling" is much too mild a word Chip. This is a presentation of a set of advance signing statements meant to circumvent that "God-damned piece of paper" by completely taking Congress and We The People out of any, and all, Constitutional processes and oversight.
These documents set up most of the framework necessary for activating a fascist coup at a time of the AEI and PNAC neocons' choosing. Only true patriots in the highest levels of our military could prevent a complete dismantling of our Constitutional form of government.
The force to enforce all those acts...
signing statements just does not exist. Some key areas can be controlled perhaps, but all--I don't really think so.

I tend to agree Grinch but power, like beauty, is very much in the eye of the beholder. If our current do-nothing Congress can't enforce a Congressional subpoena against claims of Executive Privilege, how would they go about overriding an Executive Order?
If laws passed by Congress are allowed by that same Congress (and the SCOTUS) to be ignored, or amended, by signing statements -- what is our recourse? These attacks on the Constitution are not happening by way of a conspiracy, but are being allowed by spineless professional politicians' apathy, and cowardly neoconservative New Democrat "centrism."
If Congress doesn't represent We The People, who will?
Chip, this is deeply disturbing,
and it's necessary to deal with it.
We need representatives in Congress and the Senate that
present us ,the people of our country.
Checks and balances needs to be restored and our Constitution upheld.
Congressional Failure
Congress failed the people in the 1980s. They refused to impeach and remove the dictatorial predecessor, Reagan for his disregard of the rule of law. They failed to counter this systematic seizure of unlimited power by not acting on these warning signs.
They failed to adequately challenge this troubling expansion of executive authority, and in doing so has enabled the very fascist autocracy that looms at the end of this one way tunnel towards destruction.
They - in failing to acknowledge and uphold their oaths and affirmations of office - have set the stage for the implementation of martial law and unchecked authoritarian rule. One may feel tempted to inquire whether impeachment can even save us now? I still must cling to that hope.
We must demand answers from Congress and not relent in our passionate tenacity. We must remain resolute in demanding the immediate action from our government. DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!
Warn our elect of the repercussions that face them should they not act now. Seriously consider the impact and stances held by our presidential candidates in this matter of imperative importance.
Don't toy around with these people any longer. I for one will harass my Congressman's office on a daily basis; as well as both of my Senators. So to will I begin harass the campaign headquarters and congressional offices of all those running for President.
We MUST stop settling for electability and demand credible, reliable and viable representation!! Our Constitution must not be sacrificed for ANY purpose. It is time for the complacency of Congress - regardless of its political leniency - to meet it's demise.
If they do NOT support impeachment, they are complicit and an enabler in the crimes committed by these anti-american Fascists!! There must not be any acceptable excuse for inaction...PERIOD!
