Senator "Fearful" Feingold (Re)Places His "Judgment" Above the US Constitution: Says Support "Censure" Not Impeachment!

Over time, I've been proud to call my senator, Russ Feingold, "Fearless." Well, I'm not so sure any more.

I'm considering replacing "Fearless" with "Fearful." He's proposed censure for the following high crimes and misdemeanors, as described directly from his office's press release. What's his motivation?

Is he dipping his toe in the water to test whether the country is ready to back impeachment as we finally convince the Honorable John Conyers to move forward in the House to do their Constitutionally mandated duty as we struggle to preserve the law of our land as a land of laws and not men?

The focus of Senator Feingold's first censure resolution intends to condemn the President, Vice President, and the administration for getting the United States into the Iraq war under false pretenses. Possibly including:

  • The assertion that Iraq was linked to al-Qaeda;
  • The claim that Iraq harbored weapons of mass destruction that threatened the U.S.;
  • The knowingly false declaration in the 2003 State of the Union Address that Saddam Hussein tried to purchase yellow-cake uranium from Niger;
  • Insufficient war planning;
  • The failure to protect troops and preserve the military;
  • Fiscal mismanagement of the war.

But, there's more in his second censure:

The focus of Senator Feingold’s second censure resolution will likely focus on the Bush Administration’s relentless refusal to abide by the rule of law. Possibly including:

  • The implementation of the illegal, domestic wiretapping program and for misleading the American people regarding the legality of the warrentless program;
  • The use of military commissions;
  • Redefining torture;
  • The politicization of the U.S. Attorney scandal;
  • The refusal to comply with congressional subpoenas.

Remember the commercial "Is it real - or is it Memorex?"

Is this a real attempt at censuring rather than impeaching Bush & Cheney & his other minions - or is this a "trial balloon" to gauge support for impeachment once it reaches the Senate?

Senator Feingold is seeking input from folks in Wisconsin and across the country on what should be in these final resolutions. You can let him know that you're on board with his demand for accountability, and give him feedback here.

Open letter to:

Honorable Senator Feingold,

You believe they have committed an impeachable offense, you describe this as the worst assault on the constitution perhaps in history, you quoted Gordon Smith as having used the word "criminal"
in connection to the Iraq war, you say "This administration has weakened America in a way that is frightful at one of the most important times when we need to be strong. And we as a Congress have to reflect this tragedy" you also correctly point out "the American people are outraged at the way they’ve been treated. They are outraged at the dishonesty that they have been subjected to. The American people—we deserve better than the way we’ve been treated, and somehow this has to be reflected". But this is the part one of us does not get...with respect for your intentions...you say of a censure measure "I think that’s a reasonable course and does not get in the way of our normal work.

Is not your first duty as a citizen and as a Sentor to uphold the constitution? Is that not more important than "normal work"
There are millions of people who are outraged not just at the administration but with the branch of government that has the obligation to stop the attack on the constitution before any more
of this "tragedy" plays out. You say you want Conress to reflect this? But the record will only reflect that you knew there were crimes and attacks on the constitution but did nothing to stop it!!!
Impeach and Remove...how many more of us will die before it is obvious to those with the power to do it? This is not a left or right
issue and please stop letting the press puppets set you up with stupid questions such as MR. RUSSERTS:" Do you think the American people will look on this saying, “Here go the Democrats just trying to create something sensational by censuring the president rather than trying to solve the problem of Iraq”?" First it question begging..who says you can't do both! Second...what's with the "Here go the Democrats...silly people eh? and last time I checked Democrats
were American people so what people is Russert talking about?
Don't let these fools manipulate you! If Russert wants to pretend to journalism by playing the devils advocate...let him ask real questions like why should criminals be playing with peoples lives
one more day?

That was your moment to tell him there is nothing more sensational than using nukes to scare people or resorting to all kinds of inventive attacks to render meaningless the only document that keeps us free.
You tell him and the American public...this is an American issue...
not party politics. Now as far as regular work...we as Americans
work harder than any other western nation without the benifits...
I am sure we would not mind giving you a break from your regular work
to save this country and our constitution.

Liberty and Justice for All....

The absolute fallacy of CENSURE is that it is akin...

to a bullet without any gunpowder in it. It does no harm and looks good in red or blue print.

The Congress can now beat their chests as they describe their 'heroic' action whilst waiting in line to get their paychecks. Whew...what a day's work they have done.

The Constitution MANDATES impeachment and removal, conviction and incarceration for the long list of crimes committed by this pair of criminals and all their hangers-on.

Censure is a bullet without gunpowder in it.

What good is that?

A mind once expanded can never return to its original dimensions.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.

He's in the Senate. This is the best he can do until the House of Representatives passes a Bill of Impeachment.

"Best he can do...?" Then Feingold should stand up and support the House and Conyers. Calling for "censure" is counterproductive, wishy-washy, and an affront to the voters AND the Constitution.

I remember when Senator Orrin Hatch

demanded Bill Clinton's impeachment after Clinton's famous TV appearance when he said "I did not have sexual relations with that woman Ms. Lewinsky."

Those who say Senators must remain neutral on impeachment don't know their history.

It's true - she was censured by Congress for having an affair with Roberto Rosselini. Why are we such wimps? They impeached Clinton without caring about whether or not it would make it through the Senate. Besides when the dirt comes out the Senate won't be able to stand by him and show their faces in their home states.

Dear Senator Feingold,Your kidding us right Russ? OH NO! Not a letter of censure please! We'll be good OK? The White house former staff members don't even show up when subpoenaed for their crimes of treason, kidnapping, imprisonment, torture, murder and an unjustified war that's killed what, a million or so innocent people. I'm sure a bad letter in their files would sure have them shaking in their boots. Hey! Maybe you could get up the guts to sneak over to their house one night and light a bag of dog poop on fire on the front porch and ring the doorbell then run and hide. I hope all the Democrats are not nearly as spineless as you seem to be. Censure is about as functional an idea to these criminals as a woman holding up a restraining order just before the person on the order fires a 9mm bullet through the paper order into her head and kills her.
Perhaps a couple weeks time of you and your staff would be better spent at the beach. Be sure everyone brings along a rubber mallet and you each could forcibly pound a few hundred pounds of sand up your butts in protest. Boy Howdy that'll show em huh? 'Progressive Patriots' my ass, 'Probably Pussies' is more like it. Impeach the Nazi's or shut up. Sincerely yours, HR Holmes
