I am posting below a journal entry that I made back in February of 2005.  It was relevant than and it is just as relevant now. 

AN AMERICAN JOURNAL

Where is the outrage? My country is being run by a gang of thieves and thugs.  This cabal is so much smarter and sophisticated than the Fascists in Europe in the mid-20th-century.  They worked mainly on physical force and fear.  This gang operates on pure political power and money; distorting the Constitution, laws and the rules when it suits their convenience to work their will.  Like redistricting congressional districts in Texas five years early or holding open votes on the capital house floor for 35 or 40 minutes after the vote should've closed to allow their lead henchmen to twist arms, make promises and dispense enough money to garner the votes to pass a very bad bill - The Medicare Prescription Plan.

 And through all this they have developed a cult of personality around a fairly dim intellect from Texas whose main achievement in life was to be born into the family of a future Vice President and President; utilizing this accident of birth to leverage himself into many advantageous business and political situations; all of which he managed to foul up in one way or another.  And now he is the President of the United States.  Under his watch:

1. We have been attacked by terrorists who killed more than 3000 people in one day. It could be arguably said that he was asleep at the switch at the time.  Not paying attention to the intelligence available to him and ignoring the plans and initiatives the prior administration had in motion.  Where is the outrage?!
2. Taken an economy with a forecasted $2 trillion surplus and managed to squander that largess and run up a $4 trillion debt.  That means this guy has run up a debt, in five years of $6 trillion dollars.  That amounts to a trillion dollars a year.  Amazing!  Where is the outrage?!
3. After running on a pledge to be a uniter and not a divider; he now governs a nation that is more polarized than in any other time since the Civil War.  He's managed to exacerbate the situation to the point where it may not be salvageable. Where is the outrage?!

 And how does he do this.  How does he maintain power when he is such a nincompoop?  He does it with a combination of fear, money and religion.  Not necessarily in that order. 

How did this happen you say?  Think back to his original primary campaign for Presidency.  It was funded entirely with private money, so when he won the nomination he was already bought and paid for by those that funded his campaign.  And when his campaign ran into some trouble, he retreated to the Bobby Jones University, that bastion of extreme Christian religious thought and made his pact with the Evangelicals.  So, now, this country is being governed by the rich and the righteous.
