At the New York City Town Meeting, former Congressman Major Owens presented a proposal for action. He suggested that if 2008 really is too late, then it is time to demand action. We must go to the offices of local members of the House of Representatives to argue for impeachment. If the Representative is not amenable to the idea, then we must be committed to stage a "sit-in for impeachment."

On Monday, July 9, a World Can’t Wait delegation will visit Congressman Jerrold Nadler’s office. The Cheney impeachment bill, H Res 333, has been submitted by the House Judiciary Committee to the Constitution subcommittee headed by Representative Nadler.

The Cheney impeachment bill, HR 333, has been submitted by the House Judiciary Committee to the Constitution subcommittee headed by Rep. Nadler. There are therefore very particular reasons for going to his office at this time.

If the House is to bring the articles of impeachment against Cheney, the Congressman must sign on to the bill, press for a hearing on the bill in subcommittee, hold a vote to pass it, and then repeat the process in the Judiciary Committee. We also want Congressman Nadler to publicly encourage his colleagues to sign on. The bill should be brought to the Democratic Caucus and the Caucus must support it. There are therefore very particular reasons for going to his office at this time.

Because of Representative Nadler’s key positions on the Judiciary Committee and its Constitution Subcommittee, the delegation will be composed both of constituents and members of the greater metropolitan area. We will have prepared statements making the case for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. We anticipate that those who join us will be prepared to sit in until our Congressman agrees to act on our
behalf.

* We will gather at 11:00 am on Monday, July 9th . We will meet in front of the club S.O.B.’s at 204 Varick Street (on the corner of Houston and Varick Streets). This is directly across the street from the Congressman’s office. The Houston Street stop on the #1 subway line is right on that corner.
* If you arrive late, meet us at the Congressman’s office at 201 Varick Street, Room 669.
* Some delegation members will leave after presenting our statements to the Congressman and his staff. Other delegation members will stay until the Congressman decides to back the Resolution, which may involve a sit-in. Your degree of participation is up to you.
* Please bring an ID along with you as you may need that to be admitted.
* Please dress appropriately for a visit to a senior Congressman’s office.

silence and paralysis are NOT acceptable. That which you will not resist
and mobilize to stop, you will learn - or be forced - to accept. There is no escaping it: the whole disastrous course of this Bush regime must be STOPPED. And we must take the responsibility to do it.
