Impeahment Committe, Congressional 1rst District

I just moved to Kenmore from McDermott's district and I am interested in participating in the impeachment committee. I will try to keep track of this conversation and am ready to stand with "enough!" signs as they are already doing Saturdays at the corner of Ballinger and Bothell Way. Maybe I can help put us all in touch by stopping by there next Saturday and seeing if we can all hook up. Let me know if you are interested.

are you still a commitee?

Hi,

I'm Chandra. Do you have an impeachment committee going? Where does Inslee stand on impeachment, I didn't see his name on any of the vote rosters.

Thanks

Inslee skeptical

Inslee took the lead in pushing for impeachment of Alberto Gonzales, a proposal that became moot once Gonzales saw the handwriting on the wall and resigned.

To qutoe the latest update I got from Inslee regarding impeachment, in late August:

"I support full congressional investigations into all aspects of the Iraq War and other legally questionable acts of the administration.  ...Congress must do its job of oversight and investigation...

Filing articles of impeachment is not necessary to investigate the administration and hold it accountable.  It concerns me that a resolution to impeach the president, though satisfying, could stunt our progress and have a negative effect on our effort to stop President Bush's multiple errors. ...We should not do anything to encourage people to rally to the defense of George W. Bush. He does not deserve it.

... If President Bush were removed from office, Vice President Dick Cheney could become president.  It is highly improbable, if not impossible, that both would be impeached and removed from office at exactly the same time due to the fact the the Constitution mandates a separate impeachment trial for the president of the United States, even if both parties are named under the same articles of impeachment.  Regardless, another vice president would be appointed by the choosing of the current administration."

Bottom line is, he's all for investigations but skeptical of impeachment--I understand his concerns as being about tactics rather than goals. I don't know how his thinking may have evolved since August. As far as I know he has not taken a stand on HR 333.

What gives Congress the right?

Laura has it right. I met twice last year with Inslee and had the same observations. I continue to challenge his stance by sending articles from constitutional scholars and my own goading. I am not sure what good it does other than make me feel better.

But the essence for me - what it all condenses down to - is this insidious stance Congress has taken on impeachment has cut off their own nose to spite their face. They have spit on the Constitution and the constituents. And the wreckage they have left is the compromise of the co-equal aspect of the Congressional branch of our government. What is left is a subservient law enforcement agency of the Executive.

My question all along for Nancy Pelosi, Jay Inslee and John Conyers has been - "What gives you the right to take away my only legal tool, by extension of my representation, for removal of a rogue and lawless administration?

What gives this collective Congress the right to shirk their constitutional mandate on impeachment and violate their oath to uphold the Constitution?

I am waiting for an answer to this question from Jay. He seems to be busy giving interviews about Apollo. Going about business as usual and ignoring the elephant in the living room. Congress is AWOL.

With the "not impeachment" hearing that took place on Friday, the time is NOW to put maximum pressure on these folks to budge them out of complacency. This is for the sake of our form of government we enjoyed just 10 years ago. IT IS NOW THREATENED! Get out there and get busy! Don't let them forget for one second what we expect!
