On July 4, Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace and supporters will hold a vigil opposite the Times Square Recruiting Station on 43 St. & Broadway to turn our country's thoughts to those people who are making the utmost patriotic sacrifice - the US soldiers on the FRONT LINES. On their behalf, we will be demanding:
BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW &
TAKE CARE OF THEM WHEN THEY GET HERE!
Not one more dollar! Not one more Death!
Military Families and Veterans for Peace are national organizations whose members know the cost of war. Over 3,500 soldiers, many of them young people, have given their lives, and over 25,000 have been wounded, often for life. Over half a million Iraqi civilians have died.
On a day when the founding of this country is celebrated, we condemn the war in Iraq as being in complete contradiction with the founding principles of our nation. It is unjust, immoral and illegal, and wasteful of our national resources, both human and financial. In a five year campaign that has seen public opinion overwhelmingly turn against the war, we have demanded the orderly and rapid withdrawal of all U.S. military troops from Iraq. Worsening domestic problems, and the deaths and maiming of thousands of U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians have increased opposition to the war on all fronts around the world. On July 4, our country's soldiers are making the ultimate patriotic sacrifice thousands of miles away by putting their lives on the line for this illegal and immoral war and occupation.
