Veterans for Peace Chapter 115 Announce: Pigstock!! Speakers/Workshops: Elizabeth de la Vega: a former Federal Prosecutor, including a stint as Assistant U.S. Attorney in Minneapolis, Ms. de la Vega has written articles published in The Nation, Christian Science Monitor, Salon and Mother Jones. She is the author of United States vs. George Bush, et al, a book which presents in hypothetical form the background and legal case for a grand jury indictment of the Bush Administration on the criminal charges of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States. Copies will be on sale at our retreat. Steven Miles, MD: Professor of Medicine at the U of MN Medical School and faculty in the University’s Center for Bioethics, Miles’ latest book Oath Betrayed: Torture, Medical Complicity and the War on Terror, examines military medicine as practiced in the “war on terror” prisons. Using 60,000 pages of declassified gov’t documents, Miles shows how investigations of abuses have been designed to protect the generals who created and managed the Joint Interrogation and Detention Centers. The title of Dr Miles’ talk is: Command Accountability for the Abuses at Abu Ghraib. Coleen Rowley: former FBI agent, Ms. Rowley is celebrated as the whistleblower who brought to light the failure of the FBI system to properly address information regarding the 9/11 plots. She testified regarding her concerns in front of the U.S. Senate and 9/11 Commission. More recently Ms. Rowley ran as a Democrat for the US Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd District, a race she lost to the incumbent, well-funded Republican John Kline. Ann Wright: a retired Army colonel and State Department diplomat, Ms Wright was one of three Diplomatic Corps officials to resign in direct protest of U.S. invasion of Iraq. Since her resignation, she has become a full-time anti-war activist, frequently cited, arrested and evicted for her activism. Among many anti-war actions, Ms. Wright was one of 5 judges in the January 2006 sessions of the International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration. Ms. Wright will be addressing the role of dissent in a modern democracy. Music:
