Shands Hospital: healthcare for some?

How can any hospital, clinic or doctors office operate in such a heartless and cruel way?

Does the Hippocratic Oath no longer mean anything? Is it merely a matter of formality?

My mother, whom is 52 years old has been afflicted for the last 25 years with a devestating and agonizingly painful degenerative back conditions. She has constantly been in pain due to disc ruptures, bulges, steroid injections, pinched nerves, spasmic muscles, medication withdrawls, and a host of ailments onset by her conditions. She has high cholesterol in spite of medicine and diet, high blood pressure and migraines. She has two failed corrective surgeries. Countless hours of chiropractic care. But in spite of her conditions, she has repeatedly had doctors drop her, clinics and hospitals cancel appoinments that take months to even schedule, and specialists refuse to see her. She has even had medications withheld from her by pharmacies until approval can be recieved. These meds consist of pain management, cholesterol control, blood pressure control,and  migraine control prescriptions. Why? Because she is on medicaid. And now the hospitals nationwide are going to start charging uninsured persons MORE than insured persons? That is ludicrous!! Not everyone has benefits packages, not everyone has access to insurance or even to medicaid. Not everyone can afford the astronomical premiums insurance companies are now charging based on your credit reports. Not to mention the absurd pricing(gouging) set by the Pharmaceutical Industry. It is time for change. I for one am sounding the battle cry. PLEASE urge your Senators and Representatives to become proactive in solving the medical crisis here in the USA. If Canada can do it so can we.
