Weekly Stand Up in Brooklyn - Bring Our Soldiers Home Now/ No More $ for War/Support ImpeachmentWhat: Stand Up in Brooklyn to Bring Our Soldiers Home Now / No More $ For War / Support Impeachment When: Every Wednesday Night from 6:45pm to 7:45pm Where: Flatbush Ave. @ 8th St., just off Grand Army Plaza at the 2/3 train entrance Who: Active Citizens who want our soldiers home now and Bush & Cheney impeached For more info please email me at daverobinsonworks@yahoo.com. Details: A couple of my wonderful activist friends and I decided to start a Stand Up right here in Brooklyn, for just one hour a week every Wednesday night. The idea is to encourage our fellow citizens and neighbors to CALL CONGRESS REGULARLY in support of the following three objectives: 1. bringing our soldiers home now We pass out flyers with the contact information for all Brooklyn reps, along with updated information that hopefully motivates our good neighbors who may not yet be in the habit of calling Congress to get off their butts and take ownership of what their country does in their name. We would love you to join us whenever you can. All you have to do is show up on Wednesday nights on the corner of Flatbush/8th Ave by the 2/3 station between 6:45pm and 7:45pm, prepared to hold a banner that says something like WE THE PEOPLE SAY NO TO WAR or a sign that says SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT or hand out flyers that have phone numbers for all Brooklyn reps. REMEMBER: The only reason any Democrats are standing up to Bush at all these days, in either meaningful or largely symbolic ways - i.e., not really - is that an increasing number of ordinary people like us have been raising holy hell for the last 6 years. But despite the either real or apparent progress since Nov. 2006, we have to ask the following questions: * Is Congress going to stop spending billions on this insane war? * Are our Brooklyn reps going to support impeachment, now that Kucinich has introduced HR 333 to impeach Cheney? (As of today, 2 cosponsors have signed on, but neither of them is from NYC.) If you answered NO to those questions, would you say YES to this one? * Are the majority of Dems in Congress more concerned with insuring a Democratic Presidential victory in 2008 than in doing what is necessary to stop the war and holding Bush/Cheney truly accountable NOW, in 2007? Wherever we all are on all this, there is clearly more hell has to be raised here. If you think the Dems are moving in the right direction, encourage them: KEEP THE PRESSURE ON! If you think the Dems are still playing politics with all this while the lying and the dying continues with no one held accountable (bingo!), we reach the a similar place: TURN THE PRESSURE UP! Our weekly Stand Up is a small, easy way to help our less than completely committed neighbors reach their tipping point. It is certainly a great way for our reps in Congress to know that we remain mad as hell at what all these people have done in our name, and we are demanding real change in Washington . This is not the only thing to do, and we are all involved in a lot of other peace related work, but we are also now committed to being out there in our own community for an hour once a week to get this done, and we would love you to join us. That's it. Please join us when you can. If you have any questions let me know. Thank you for reading this and joining us on Wednesday nights when you can.
