Gonzales Aide to Plead Fifth

(CBS/AP) Monica Goodling, a key Justice Department official involved in the firings of U.S. prosecutors, will invoke a constitutional privilege against self-incrimination and refuse to answer questions at upcoming congressional hearings, her lawyer said Monday.

"The potential for legal jeopardy for Ms. Goodling from even her most truthful and accurate testimony under these circumstances is very real," said her lawyer, John Dowd.

He said that members of the House of Representatives and Senate Judiciary committees seem already to have made up their minds that wrongdoing has occurred in the firings and objected to the political overtones of the congressional investigation.

Goodling, who was senior counsel to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, the top U.S. law enforcement official, and White House liaison until she took a leave of absence earlier this month, was subpoenaed by the Senate Judiciary Committee along with several of the attorney general's other top aides.

My, my – I thought that only criminals, and those with something to hide, invoked the Fifth.

Oh wait, do ya suppose...?

Sorry about that CP. Why don't you go ahead and blog it anyway, as I'm sure your comments will be entertaining...;-)

Bill, you're too modest...

about puttin' content out front. I know you're admired and respected 'round here, ditto by me even though we disagree from time to time. I don't think anyone would squeal if you chose to put content on the front. I sure wouldn't.

BTW, thanks for the pressure, hope it doesn't disappoint...

LOL! No "pressure" intended. When I read the CBS article this morning I busted out laughing, and just had to share it with someone...;-)

And yes, I enjoyed your blog very much. Much more in-depth than just a few paragraphs. Thanks!

I wish I had your outlook.

I wish I had your outlook. You read it and laughed, I read it and got angry! I guess I should calm down until Sampson gets hauled in front of the Senate on Thursday. But I have a feeling that will make me angry too because he isn't going to answer anything and lie about Speedy knowing anything.

The simple answer is that

The simple answer is that they controlled all three branches of government for six years. Now that they have some meaningful opposition, their chickens are coming home to roost in ever increasing numbers.
