US Backed Terrorist Group Explode Car Bomb In Iran Killing 11 Iranian Soldiers, 31 Wounded

A War On Terrorism or a War Of Terrorism?

Reports as usual vary wildly and small wonder that some news sources are trying to pin this on yet another subsidiary of "Al Qaeda". But this wasn't a suicide attack.

The terrorists drove a car, packed with explosives, up to a bus carrying soldiers of Iran's Revolutionary Guards. Some reports say that they forced the bus to stop by firing on it with automatic weapons, others that they blocked the road with the car while pretending to have broken down. Either way, they quickly escaped on motorbikes before detonating the car bomb by remote control.

Reports claim so far 11 soldiers killed and up to 31 wounded. A terrorist attack on this scale against Iran's elite forces, in broad daylight is unprecedented.

The official Iranian news agency announced that five arrests have been made including the ring leader and a major investigation has been launched to determine who else is involved in the attack.

It also claims to have evidence that the terrorist group was backed by the United States.

Explosion kills 11 members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards

A car bomb killed 11 members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards on Wednesday in the deadliest attack in years near the Pakistani border, and Iran accused the United States of backing militants to destabilize the country.

A Sunni Muslim militant group called Jundallah, or God's Brigade, which has been blamed for past attacks on Iranian troops, claimed responsibility for the bombing. The blast represented a sharp flare-up of violence in the remote southeast corner of Iran, near Pakistan and Afghanistan, that has long been plagued by lawlessness.

The area is a key crossing point for opium from Afghanistan and often sees clashes between police and drug gangs. At the same time, Jundallah has waged a low-level insurgency in the area, led by Abdulmalak Rigi, a member of Iran's ethnic Baluchi minority, a community that is Sunni Muslim and is present in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rigi has said his group is fighting for the rights of impoverished Sunnis under Iran's Shiite government.

An al-Qaida-linked group of the same name has carried out attacks in Pakistan, but Pakistani officials say it is not connected to the Iranian militants. Iranian officials blamed "insurgents" and "terrorists" for Wednesday's bombing -- and accused the United States of backing them to sow instability in Iran.

The London Times

The official Iranian news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying evidence suggested that the bus attackers had support from the United States.

Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie, Iran's Intelligence Minister, claimed last week that Tehran had identified 100 spies working for the United States and Israel in the border areas.

The attack follows sporadic violence in Iran's oil-rich south-western province of Khuzestan, which has a minority Arab population, and borders southern Iraq, where British troops are based.

Explosions killed more than 20 people in Khuzestan's capital, Ahvaz, in 2005 and early 2006. London has denied as "ludicrous" Iranian accusations that Britain has fomented instability in Khuzestan.

Correspondents say an attack of this size and nature is unprecedented in Iran - hitting an elite force in daylight in an open street. Reports say suspects behind the bombing have been arrested.

The city of Zahedan lies in the province of Sistan-Baluchestan, which borders both Afghanistan and Pakistan. It has been hit by a string of attacks and kidnappings blamed on the hardline Sunni group called Jundallah.

Iranian officials have accused Britain and the United States of supporting ethnic minority rebels operating in the Islamic republic's sensitive border areas.

Tehran Times

Five suspects have been arrested, an official of the Sistan-Baluchestan Governor General’s Office announced.

“The detained individuals entered the province from another country and according to their confessions, they committed the terrorist act based on a plan to incite division between Shias and Sunnis and provoke ethnic strife,” Soltan-Ali Mir told the Mehr News Agency.

The ringleader of the bombing is among the five, he added. “Some of the arrested terrorists entered Iran two days ago,” Mir stated.

Sunni ulema in Sistan-Baluchestan Province have condemned the bombing, he added. A major operation is underway to identify and arrest all the others involved in the act.

So, is Iran justified in pre-emptive attacks on western interest

Can Iran now say that they have evidence that the US is involved in attacks inside Iran? They should take their complaint to the UN and promise swift retaliation if nothing is done to keep the US out of Iran.

Iran attacks

Yes. I agree popshooker.

Get the privitized mercinaries (using our tax dollars) out of the region. They and the British intelligence are probably doing it to incite violence and war.

The Congress talks, talks, talks about Iraq troops while Bush eyes the whole Middle East and world control. We had an election to tell Congress to get out. Why do they blather on and on? To who? For what? Bush is there to stay with his bases, etc. It is to be the center control for World Government. Yipes.

I see Iran Contra Death Squads in the region just like S. America, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iraq. Bush and his gang of Empire builders want the ME for their world government union and profit. It is corporate war for profit and power.

Why would Al Qaeda fight/kill their own? Nope. This has the finger prints, MO of Bush, Inc. all over it.

Yesterday, the liar once again got on TV and spew his venom on the world. He's been circling his prey (Iran) for a long time now he's ready to strike in the whole region.

Bush ikes to interupt Martha Stewart show because it has a lot of viewers. He knows American will not switch on the TV to hear him.

It certainly throws a media blanket over the Cheney, Libby, Bush involvment in the Wilson punishment. We're at war! How can you do this in a time of danger for our country...blah..blah..blah.

I told Congress to go for Bush impeachment or even arrest him under RICO years ago. Might be they may have to get him to the Hague another way. Everyday he is in power we and the world are in grave danger.

Where's my Constitution? I'd like to whack him aside the head with it.

Iran attack

Yes...Bush has been looking for a fight in the ME before he came to office. The Downing Documents and the PNAC prove it.

Like a Neo Con snake he's been circling it and has now attacked.

What does Congress do? Talk, talk, talk, while Bush kills and disrupts the whole Middle East for war profits and Empire. Follow the money.

It is my opinion that it was probably, British intelligence or Bush Iran Contra like Death Squad (privitized contractors like Blackwater or Massad) who did the bombing. They are experienced from S. America, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalis, and now are in Iran.

Why would "Al Qaeda" attack their own? Actually Al Qaeda was formed by Ronnie "Ray"gun in the first place. They are CIA "Al Qaeda" operatives. Bush is Al Qaeda. I call him "Al Busha".

I wouldn't be surprised if all of the ME nations (except Israel who joins us in Empire) turned around to go against us...cut off oil, attack our troops, really do terrorism here, etc. Our big enemies would soon follow.

Staying the "course' and "surge" just tells them they too have to give more to fight us.

A question of evidence

Thanks for the comments.

I have little doubt the British secret services are involved in Iran also (if indeed they weren’t involved with this incident). There have been several scandals in the last couple of years where British agents have been caught red handed in both Iraq and Iran. In most cases our compliant media sweep it all under the carpet.

As for how Iran will react, that depends a lot on whether they have solid evidence of US involvement or whether they only know this via means that cannot be divulged, i.e. espionage. The Iranian news agency mentioned intense spy activity along their borders, both American and Israeli. One can only assume they have a substantial network of their own.

It is possible this is only a bluff and the US is just “the usual suspect”, but I doubt it. The stakes are very high, there is no doubt whatsoever that the Neo-conservatives want this war, they just need Iran to put one foot wrong. Those 50 war ships and hundreds of fighter jets are not there for a holiday and there are rumours that a 3rd carrier group is quietly making its way to the region, the USS Reagan I think, but I cant confirm that.

Even if they have evidence or extract a detailed confession from one of the prisoners, what can the UN do? The UN did precisely nothing to stop the wholesale demolition of Lebanon last year, even with the Prime Minister begging and crying on world TV for a ceasefire, the whole world backed the motion, but the US and UK coldly vetoed it, so Israel kept on bombing.

Iran is fully aware of this, they are far smarter than many Westerners give them credit for.

I just hope to god someone can diffuse this situation because I have a sickening feeling we have another war in the offing; a far more destructive war than most of us realise.

Iran alleges U.S. involvement in deadly attack

Iran alleges U.S. involvement in deadly attack

By Kim Murphy Times Staff Writer

TEHRAN, Iran — Bullet cartridges bearing a U.S. insignia and English lettering were among the weaponry seized last week from Sunni militants suspected of killing 11 members of Shiite-dominated Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards, Iranian officials said Sunday. A photograph of the cartridge box, along with an array of other ammunition, was published by Iranian newspapers and agencies.

The Iranians did not provide direct access to the weapons and explosives, drawing skepticism from analysts, and there was no way to evaluate the claims independently. But Iran is worried that the United States is quietly helping Iranian opposition groups foment internal instability, even while the Bush administration is directly confronting Iran over its nuclear program and its alleged arming of Shiite militants in Iraq.

The Iranian allegations, in the latest incidents of a wave of non-Shiite minority unrest, came a week after U.S. officials laid out what they said was evidence of Iranian-made weaponry in Iraq. That evidence also was inconclusive, and Iran denied supplying arms to Iraqi combatants.

A Pentagon spokeswoman, Marine Maj. Rebecca Goodrich-Hinton, said Sunday that officials had no comment in response to the allegations from Tehran. Iranian officials in the southeastern region of Sistan-Baluchestan, where a bus carrying the troops was struck by explosives from a booby-trapped car Wednesday, announced the allegations of U.S. and British involvement in the attack. Iran hangs man for attack on bus

Iran hangs man for attack on bus

Iran has executed a man over a bomb attack that killed 11 members of its elite Revolutionary Guards last week. Nasrollah Shanbe Zehi was publicly hanged at the scene of the attack in the south-eastern city of Zahedan.

He had been shown on TV confessing to involvement in Wednesday's bombing and was convicted by a Zahedan court. The attack occurred when a car packed with bombs stopped next to a bus taking the soldiers to work.

Militant group Jundallah claimed the bombing. Crowds chanted "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" as they watched the hanging. It took place in the same location as the crime, something which correspondents say is common in Iran.

Iran Presents Evidence Of US/UK Backing Terrorist Group

Iran invites international envoys to witness evidence that the US & Britain backed the terrorist bus bombing in Iran

Fars News Agency

Iran on Saturday invited international bodies to send envoys to Tehran to witness documents and other corroborative evidence showing involvement of foreign countries in recent terrorist blasts in the country's southeastern provincial capital city of Zahedan.

Director General for the political affairs of Sistan and Balouchestan governorate Soltan-Ali Mir told FNA that the US and Britain are behind the recent terrorist attacks in the city of Zahedan, adding, "Washington and London are facing serious challenges as their interests in the Middle-East region have been endangered. Since the Islamic Republic is the main center of anti-US struggles, they are seeking to trouble Iran through a series of challenges, including terrorist attacks and unrests."

Asked to elaborate on the documents proving involvement of the US and Britain in recent incidents in Iran's Sistan and Balouchestan province, he said, "The weapons that the terrorists have used are US and British made. Moreover, the arrested terrorist agents have confessed that they have been trained by English-speaking people."

The official invited representatives of the United Nations, Human Rights watch and other international bodies to dispatch envoys to Iran to observe the available documents and proofs substantiating involvement of the Untied States and Britain in the recent terrorist attacks, including the blast and shootout on Wednesday.

US funds terror groups to sow chaos in Iran

US funds terror groups to sow chaos in Iran

America is secretly funding militant ethnic separatist groups in Iran in an attempt to pile pressure on the Islamic regime to give up its nuclear programme.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's regime is accused of repressing minority rights and culture
In a move that reflects Washington's growing concern with the failure of diplomatic initiatives, CIA officials are understood to be helping opposition militias among the numerous ethnic minority groups clustered in Iran's border regions.

The operations are controversial because they involve dealing with movements that resort to terrorist methods in pursuit of their grievances against the Iranian regime.

In the past year there has been a wave of unrest in ethnic minority border areas of Iran, with bombing and assassination campaigns against soldiers and government officials.
