TheBlueHighwayman says: Photos from Saturday's Protest in Washington DC

(This is an update to a mistake I made in the first post)

The weather was beautiful for Saturday's event in Washington DC. People of all ages from around the nation converged on the capitol to express their opinion about the latest troop buildup in Iraq. I spent the day walking around snapping photos of the crowd. This wasn't a parade of Communist Freaks! These were average American families peacefully demonstrating to let the Congress know they voted for change last November. The real freaks are in the White House!

The coming week should be very interesting. Will Congress at last have the courage to stand up to Bush and Cheney? Especially Cheney after that pshychotic episode he had on CNN. Imagine he actually said Congress can do whatever, he intends to proceed as planned in Iraq! Meaning he couldn't care less if Congress cuts the funds for the Iraq war or anything else. We now have a Monarchy!

They came by the tens of thousands but to Bush they were just another 'focus group!'

The Shot above is from atop of the Washington Monument at 1:42P about half the crowd was in line to march and they can't be seen in this photo. Below are Photos of the March as it came down Independence Ave after rounding the Capitol. There are also shots of people in the Mall area.

There were a few characters around!

Of course our local security force was there!

It might have been an awesome day, but by looking at the pictures here, to me it looks like a carnival. I don't think the message coming across is effective.

Happy smiling faces, children, people in costumes.

Some people read War and Peace and say it's a good novel, others read the ingredients on a bubble gum wrapper and find the secrets of the universe.

Good quote Highwayman - I know what you are saying. First let me say that I did not mean to dis the photographer as the photos are great.

As a matter of fact they captured my feelings. I have been to many protests years ago. Then once again there was a need to attend more protests now. I was sort of shell shocked at the vibe of these new protests. Something was missing and I find it over and over again.

There was a certain energy we had back then during the anti-Viet Nam era. That energy is now missing - I guess unless you are in front and are able to hear the speakers. But it's a totally different thing now.

I think when people start to get more hard core in the streets, that may rock these stubborn politicians.

No, I am not calling for violence - but I am calling for a stronger more intense vibe. This is serious business, and we need to show them that.

Great pictures

"This is what democracy looks like" is one of my favorite Anti-War chants. People from all walks of life, working together to bring about positive change to stop the lies for wars and to save human life.

It is a fact, a few good people can make powerful changes for the good of all.

Without the Anti-War Protesters the world would be in a worst place.

Thanks for the pictures they are beautiful!
