CautionThis is my first post on this forum, and I am doing so to advise caution in regard to any proposed action items. First of all, and let me get this out of the way, I am SICK AND TIRED of hearing my country referred to as a democracy. It is not, and never has been, a democracy by any rational definition. This country is a REPUBLIC! The distinction is this: A DEMOCRACY by it's definition works upon majority rule; this means that if the majority agrees upon a given issue, then through it's legislative process the majority OPINION (very important) becomes law, no matter how ill-advised or injust. This is mob rule, no more and no less. In a REPUBLIC, there is a mitigating regime which prevents excesses that could be perpetrated by a legislature influenced by outside interests, whether in the form of corruption or the result of mandates from a misinformed and uneducated or lied-to constituency. This mitigating influence is called a Constitution, and fortunately for us it also includes a Bill of Rights. These things are in place in order to prevent the excesses of power. THE PROBLEM which we all must face is that influences outside of our judicial and legislative processes have done everything in their considerable power to subvert and abrogate the Constitution and Bill of Rights. They've been at it for a very long time and they are GETTING IT DONE with the help of the likes of Bush/Cheney. This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with politics in terms of Democrat vs Republican, especially considering that the Democratic party establishment record in the matter of perserving and defending the Constitution and BOR is not much better than that of the Republican party. This has solely to do with the way influence is peddled in Washington DC and how the Office of the President of the United States has become an adjunct to the interests of a vast corporate oligarchy. I intend to be very circumspect in my endorsement of any candidate. I intend to REQUIRE of any candidate for any office that they regard their OATHS OF OFFICE, all of which include a promise to "Protect and Defend the Constitution" as DEFINING PRINCIPLES in their proposed representation of their constituency. I will not jump on any bandwagon, and regard the "choices" among Democratic Party hopefuls to be pretty poor so far, with one or two exceptions...we'll see... The upshot is that I have HAD IT with both of these political parties; they have both failed miserably to uphold the principles of Justice upon which this country was founded. I will tolerate it no longer. In particular, I feel that it is INCUMBENT upon the current Democratic establishment, without regard to politics, to pursue and prosecute the abuses of the current administration as crimes against the people of the United States, most particularly in their violation of their oaths of office. It is my sincere belief that the people running this federal government, including the President, are guilty of crimes approaching Treason, and should be investigated, brought to Justice and tried accordingly. This is a defining moment in the history of this Republic, and will determine, perhaps once and for all, what kind of culture we wish to live in...By and For the People or as virtual slaves to agendas of which we can't even concieve. |

Paladin, yeah, we know this is a Republic. That is the old...
war cry of the right wingnuts who are known to be 'always' correct(sarcasm). This actually is a Democratic Republic, a bit of important difference from the simple Republic you, as a Libertarian continue to tout.
We can go further with this debate provided you state whom you voted for in '04.
Hasn't been much of any protect and defend going on during the past 6+ years has there? We, as Dems, have only had 20 days in which to provide this Republic with a semblance of our very famous checks and balances.
The right-wing has notably been missing from anything that smacks of democracy as we have known it since our country's inception.
The Right-Wing, which includes Libertarians, have marched in lockstep for years--the Reagan, Bush, Bush years. Dems, as you clearly note, do not march in lockstep.
Only the totalitarian fascists have brought us, as a country, war and economic bankruptcy with all it's related ills.
We appreciate it when 'others' agree to join with us in reclaiming our Democratic Republic. You, and others, could more easily get started in the changes that are needed by simply stating the obvious: How can I help.
Your help is needed. Lectures we can get from Rush et. al.
