Keeping Up with Exxon Ed WhitfieldWell as many know and as I feared and tried to forewarn, Exxon Ed Whitfiled demolished Tom Barlow in the general election for Kentucky's First Congressional District's seat in Washington. Despite the national trend here in Kentucky we only gained one seat, that of John Yarmuth in the area consisting of Louisville. Over all it was very disappointing that again Democrats in this area just forfeited our Congressional seat to Ed Whitfield. Having worked for the Eric Streit campaign here in Kentucky's first all of these events were pretty distressing to me. I wish we would've had a chance to have pounded Whitfield on his terrible record of partisan voting and blind devotion to Mitch McConnell, President Bush, and practically any big Corporate interest that had some thousands to spare. Adding insult to injury seeing him stealing Eric Streit's idea of putting our shut down plants to work providing the fuels of the future from Kentucky grown crops and bio-mass and running ads on it was enough to make me truly sick. Well, while we may have lost the battle, the war of ideas and vision for leadership is far from over. Ed Whitfield may want to live in Florida or West Virginia or wherever it is he really lives now and hold our Congressional seat but in the 110th Congress I can assure you that someone who actually lives in the First Congressional District of Kentucky is going to be watching and reporting on his every little partisan vote and comment. The Eric Streit campaign was not based on one person but on a vision for our country and our neighborhoods, and a willingness to fight for it. The latter part of that campaign is still alive I can assure you. This node is to let anyone who will read it follow my Congressman, Ed Whitfield's votes in the 110th Congress. I will be keeping it as updated as much as I possibly can. While we commend all the Democrats in the rest of the country who performed superbly and delivered the Congress to us, I resolve that never again will Whitfield's actions go unnoticed, and that in two more years it will be a different outcome and Kentucky's First Congressional District will once again have a Congressman from Western Kentucky who cares about Wesern Kentuckians.

Well Here We Go Again
You know how we hear about all this bi-partisan talk? We hear Whitfield's hero "Boss" McConnell yapping about how the Congress should be bi-partisan. So how has Exxon Eddie's votes lined up so far in this new "bi-partisan" atmosphere?
One thing the polls I saw after the election stated was that Americans were even more concerned with over Iraq was the mass corruption of the last Republican led Congress. Democrats all over this country campaigned on cleaning up this "Culture of Corruption" and Americans overwhelmingly voted them into office. So when it came time to vote on doing just that when the Democrats passed the rules of the new Congress which included closing K St. and limiting lobbyist power how did Exxon Eddie vote? Of course he voted no. He can't do without his lobbyist money, that is what he actually wants a Congressional seat from a district he doesn't live in now isn't it? Here is the link to the vote on the new rules for the 110th:

It Just Gets Worse
Another thing that the Democrats campaigned widely on and were overwhelmingly swept into office for was the implementation of the reccommendatitons of the bi-partisan (theres that word again) 9-11 Commission. Well the good news is that Democrats in the House have delivered on that promise and with considerable help from Republicans on the other side of the aisle have passed that legislation.
Was Exxon Ed Whitfield on that list of 68 Republicans who either heard the voice of the American people and wanted to do their job, or just maybe have some common sense? Of course not. Ed Whitfield voted no to implementing the reccommendations of the 9-11 Commission and doing the things essential to truly securing our homeland and making us safe. Ed Whitfield is so out of touch with Americans and Western Kentuckians it is simply embarrassing!!!!!

I'm salivating over the rest of the hundred hours agenda!!!
Before We Say More
About the hundred hours agenda, I just want to call to attention Whitfield's grade and votes from the Iraq and Afganistan War Veterans. Here is the link:

Now while his C+ is much better than most of his Republican colleagues I would just like to say that I believe that anyone who rubber-stamped all of Bush's failed policies on this war should be ashamed to recieve anything less than an A+. As Americans it is our duty to take care of our Veterans especially when they are sent off to fight and die over false pretenses. Ed Whitfield, you should be ashamed of your C+ vote in the interests of our "War on Terror" Veterans. This is definately not how the people of Kentucky's first Congressional district think we should show our appreciation for their efforts.
How does Whitfield feel
About the tragedy in Darfur? Here is a link to his grade and votes on helping out in that region:

I would just like to say to Ed Whitfield that maybe in Florida, or California, or West Virginia, or wherever it is that you really live, people aren't concerned with genocide. However, here in Kentucky's first district we think it is an absolute disgrace that you can't show enough courage or leadership to do what is right.
Exxon Eddie lives up to his name
How does Ed Whitfield feel about trying to come up with cleaner, more efficient alternative fuels to gasoline? Check out this bill:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.res.00066:
Now check out Ed Whitfield voting for his buddies at Exxon against it:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll035.xml
This just shows how out of touch with Kentucky Ed Whitfield is. While he happily campaigned on the ideas of the Eric Streit for Congress campaign about making Kentucky a leader in alternative fuels using Kentucky grown crops and bio-mass, and opening our closed factories to refine this new technology, when the time came to put his money where his mouth was Whitfield decided to follow his "Boss" Mitch McConnell, and his donors from the oil companies instead of voting for the interests of Kentucky. What a disgrace.
Whitfield Tough on Crime?
Check out this bill from Congress trying to strip retirement benefits from members of Congress who commit crimes while serving in Congress:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.00476:
Now look at Exxon Eddie voting against it:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll043.xml
It seems that Whitfield is tough on crime as long as it is not White Collar crime. He thinks his buddies like Duke Cunnningham and Mark Foley should get away scot-free. What a disgrace.
From the Horse's mouth (or possibly the other side)
Look at Whitfield's response on his site to the soaring prices of prescription drugs:
http://whitfield.house.gov/issues/prescription-drugs.aspx
Now look at the bill introduced in this Congress which would allow the Federal government do just that, and negotiate with drug companies for lower prices:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.00004:
Now look once again at Whitfield siding with big business over average Kentuckians and voting against this bill:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll023.xml
Sure, Exxon Eddie talks a good game:
I just want to know if Ed Whitfield cares so much about working with his colleagues to bring prescription drug prices down, why did he vote not to?
