Antonia Juhasz emphasized Blood for Oil

Last night, Antonia Juhasz spoke at the Ukiah City Hall to a room packed with Peace activists. She elaborated in detail about the obvious connections between the war in Iraq and the Bush family agenda to control Middle East oil. The connection is so obvious, she described the current actions of the Congressional Democrats as "playing a game" to buy time until they can clarify what the electorate cares about most.

Antonia says the main goal of the Congressional Democrats is to win the Presidency in 2008. She said that they don't want to impeach because they want the Bush administration to continue to discredit themselves making the Democrats look good. She said that the Congressional Democrats are just waiting to hear from all of us about which issues are important, because they want to curry our favor toward the next big election.

The Mendocino County Impeachment Committee was in attendance in full force. We brought up issues of the outrageous injustices and the fact that the Bush administration will continue to persist until nothing less than an impeachment exposes the crimes and injustices to all those who still don't see the obvious. Antonia responded saying that if the President and Vice-President are impeached, Nancy Pelosi is next in line to become President. Therefore, it is in her interest to pretend that she doesn't want that to happen.

In essence, now is a critical time for all Peace activists to contact our Congressional representatives and let them know what we want. Antonia strongly suggested that we gather in groups of 10-12 and visit the offices of our Congressional representatives to state our case, deliver petitions, and directly provide written statements. She said personal visits have more impact than letters, faxes, phone calls or emails. Antonia suggested that we bring food and sleeping bags, and "occupy" the Congressional offices of our representatives in parallel with the occupation of Iraq. Let's go!!!

Antonia Juhasz continued

Antonia said that one of the huge issues corrupting our government is the legal personhood of corporations. She mentioned that Humboldt County passed a county-wide resolution on the ballot to remove personhood rights from corporations.

I think that is a brilliant idea! At this point in history, the 19th century "robber barons" of the US railroads got a precedent-setting Supreme Court decision that gave person rights to corporations under the law. This 120-year old precedent has led to the corporations being able to buy our politicians and buy legislation that favors corporate profits at the expense of the Common Good.

Theoretically, our government is for the People, of the People, and by the People. We the People OWN the government and all the public resources of our nation. But we, as individuals, cannot compete with the $Billions that corporations give to political re-election campaigns. Therefore, I suggest we follow the lead of Humboldt County and run an initiative in the next county-wide election to remove person rights from corporations within our own county.
