Christopher Dodd on Withdrawing Troops And Presidential Bid
In an editorial in the Sunday Des Moines Register -- and clearly laying the groundwork for the Iowa presidential caucuses -- Dodd was very direct from the first sentence of his column. "The time has come for the United States to begin the process of getting our troops out of Iraq," wrote Dodd, who many think will indeed run for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. An excerpt:
Dodd has said that he will evaluate in the next month or two whether or not to pursue the presidency, but that the state of the world and the fact that he has young children enters significantly into his choice. "I've got two very young daughters that I'm going to celebrate Christmas with tomorrow and I want them to grow up in a century in this country that offers as many opportunities as those provided to my generation," said Dodd, when appearing on ABC's This Week on Sunday. "And those are the motivations I'm thinking about and on the basis of that and the other factors as to whether or not I can win this race and attract additional support is something that I'll evaluate over the next couple of weeks." But he conceded that he has been looking at a presidential run since the summer, including having staff already assembled in early primary states. "I began the process of looking at it seriously last June," he said. " It's gone well over the summer and fall months. I've been to the critical caucus and primary states, put together a good staff to try to raise the necessary resources." "I'm very worried, as I think many Americans are, about our conditions at home and abroad and whether or not America is going to be a stable and secure country in the 21st century." Withdrawing Troops
I congratulate Dodd for taking a stand that many Democrats seem to want to avoid. I guess the oil problem is still in the back of their minds! What is in my mind is the fact that nearly 6 thousand Americans have died because of 9/11, and the facts are there, the Twin Towers are the smoking guns! Wake up Americans! Oh, by the way, where is Bin Laden?
Twin towers, Iraq??
No, the twin towers has nothing to do with Iraq. It has everything to do with Bush wanting to be "a war president" ( read "Plan of Attack" by Bob Woodward)and he did become a war president didnt he( sadly)..It scares me that some still think 9/11 and Iraq has ANY connection..
Vote Dodd in 2008
Dodd in 2008 YES
Dodd is the right man for this job, absolutely. I support him 110% and as one of his constituents I can say he is a good man, a smart man, and he will do as he says. Dodd keeps his promises.
Chris Dodd says he'll get us out of Iraq "now" and he will, unlike Hillary who stated, "I can't promise that because I don't know what I'll have going in to office"..another words, she WILL NOT get us out of Iraq, and why should she with big corp america to buy the office for her?. Dodd is the only candidate with real time service to his country and we the people of CT. I am proud of him running, I just wish the rest of america wouldn't allow this office to be PURCHASED by Hillary, (because she has more money from BIG corp doners who she will reward once in office) or Obama (who has no experience but has a nice appearance on Oprah) The rest don't stand a chance to win, but Dodd can if we can just get people to stop supporting "who they think can win" instead of who SHOULD WIN!!
Now more then ever we need true integrity and real experience, we've already seen how no experience can kill us (Bush/Cheney), lets get a man who hasn't spent his whole life just so he can run for President ( like Hillary has). Let's contribute and finally get back the country we grew up being proud of. It may very well be the last chance we get to turn this country around and be a proud people again.
