After January 2007, George W. Bush will have to deal with Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate. He has already met with the new leadership, including Pelosi and Reid. To both he promised cooperation; he even told Pelosi he’d give her the name of a decorator for her new office. He also said that this was not a new situation for him, wrily noting that this was not his “first rodeo.” He joked with senators Durbin and Reid that his blue tie was further evidence of post-“thumping” good will.
All of this came on the heels of his abrupt dismissal of Don Rumsfeld. And when W replaced him with Robert Gates, he led many old Washington hands to think that “Poppy” and his gang would be back influencing things. Misguided pundits wrote that daddy was going to bail out his boy once again. One noted that Oedipus had entered the political realm; as op-eds called Bush pathetic and in need of having his presidency saved. Newsweek’s cover screamed “Father Knows Best: With Congress lost and Iraq in chaos, Bush calls in his dad’s team.”
Well, I’m not so sure that George W. Bush is really singing a different tune - he doesn’t want to, and even if he did, I don’t think he could without extensive psychotherapy. The Gates nomination is not a sign that W will soon be surrounded by his father’s team, though this has been a life-long pattern. Rather, I see the Gates appointment as an in-your-face move, imposing yet another known manipulator of news and a former Iran-Contra operative on the ever-gullible media. To me, Bush is saying, “You don’t like Rummy? Now look what I’m dishing up.”
And it’s not only Gates. Bush is appointing the same old right wing judges he always has, as reported in the Wall Street Journal. He is re-appointing UN Ambassador Bolton. His newly appointed head of family planning was described in the Washington Post as “striking proof that the Bush administration remains dramatically out of step with the nation’s priorities.” And to top it off, he wants 20,000 more troops for another push – one more deadly push – so he can stay the course in Iraq.
In other words, Bush remains defiant, still out of touch with what is happening both in the world around him and in his own inner world. Wearing a blue tie and recommending an interior decorator is not Bush offering olive branches to the Democratic victors – rather it is his way of mocking them. Bush remains the consummate con artist, joking and smiling while continuing to stick the knife in. Because of all this, January will be a time for action, not reaction – a time for careful and thorough investigation with all blinders off.

MSM Is Starting to Get It!
Mainstream media is finally picking up on Bush's disconnects...
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS --
Now WHY is bush in Latvia and Estonia? I can't figure out if they are trying to get him out of town, sending him somewhere that he can't get into too much trouble or maybe he is trying out some new ideas in a place where he won't draw too much attention or what?

He's letting Cheney do all the" heavy lifting".
So much for Georgie's claims that his job is
"hard work".
Just guessing...
Just guessing, but both are small countries where he can make appearances without too much protest. And it gives him a chance to check out the new Latvian oil terminal that will fuel the Russian military, too. Because of their history of being Russian-occupied, the Baltic states of Latvia-Estonia-Lithuania aren't keen on Russia (except for trade), and now that Putin is being scrutinized in 40 or so dissident demises, it really isn't advisable for Bush to travel there. He might also be trying to convince some NATO allies to free up some troops for Afghanistan.
It could also have to do with outsourcing, a little quid pro quo: "I also want to thank you for your hard work in helping democracy spread in the neighborhood. We had a really good discussion today about Belarus. We talked about the Ukraine and Georgia and Moldova. We talked about Russia and the relationship between the Baltics and Russia. These three nations have also recognized that those of who are free have a responsibility to help others be free outside of our neighborhoods. And I want to thank you for your contributions in Iraq and Afghanistan. To this end, I discussed my request for the U.S. Solidarity Fund -- my request to the Congress for the U.S. Solidarity Fund, to help these nations who have deployed troops to be able to better afford those deployments."
Sounds like they're cutting mercenary costs by paying off smaller nations to provide military - more bang for the buck, and all that jazz...
Of course, he dressed it up a bit, which gave it a very odd, eerie, unsettling quality, like that feeling we have when we are watch something we can't believe we are seeing: "...never again should we allow Jews and gypsies to be exterminated and the world not pay close attention to it. Never again should we let -- shall we tolerate tyranny and subjugating people to incredible death. We have an obligation as free societies never to forget that history, and to do something about the possibility of that arising again."
Everything you mentioned
Everything you mentioned rings true. Especially this reason:
And
When Bush gets through we will be paying for his folly for the next couple of generations in $$$ and lives lost. There seems to be no end to the misery that he is willing to visit on the world, all for his legacy as the "war president".

Think they didn't know?
Do you really think that mainstream media is "finally picking up on Bush's disconnects..."?
They always new, it just wasn't convenient to say so. For many years the news was a public service. Newspaper reporters and radio/tv reporters were dedicated defenders of the public trust until people like that Aussie reject Murdock figured out that "news" could turn a profit. Give the people what they want not truth. And what do they want??? Controversy, intrigue and conflict! Look at what is selling best on TV today....reality (fictional) shows and News. Unlike past times, news is now considered a profit center by all public media and revenue spots during the news are among the highest grossing spots available at all levels of television and radio.
