In Ulster County, there has been a concerted effort to bring a legislative resolution to the floor for a successful vote. A democratic majority, however, has not been sufficient to get it done. And indeed, there should be at least one Republican who would support the resolution: the fate of the country is not a partisan issue.

impeachment
Hello fellow outraged friend:
I just posted our 28th district in NY on dem.com in the hopes of sparking some action here in Buffalo, NY and surrounding areas. I began looking at other people's postings to see what everyone had to say. Keep up the good fight, friend!
Have you checked out Naomi Wolf's speech at U. of Washington on You Tube? If you have time, check it out-- that speech, and my current health care crisis, has finally kicked my ass into action!

Congratulations Gerry!
They never would return my CD. I finally almost gave up. On last try I saw CD22 on the list. Good job man. Now shall I help you organize a biggy for Dec 10? I'll bet Annie will help. Let's get Maurice if he's in town. Inside, outside? Day, night? Kingston? How about the Kings Mall Parking Lot. I'll bet we could enlist the Free Speech folks. Hope to hear from you soon!

good idea
I like the notion of a 12/10 rally. But me? it just won't get done. You're the man. And I'll be there. Annie, Susan and others from the Inquiring Mind gallery. (There's a democratic meeting there tomorrow: I've been trying to connect with them)
OK: back to business. The impeachment thing is still on. The man is still dangerous. And now the whole world knows: there is an idiot in the white house and it is open season on the United States. Putin and very despot in the world knows we a country caught in the headlights. We cannot wait 2 years! I suppose the kids might want to wait, but grown ups and beyond: now is the only time.

Impeachment: a good start
There can be little doubt that Mr. Bush has committed impeachable offenses and I believe it is important to pursue that avenue.
However, if I may be so bold, I would like to suggest at least the consideration of a parallel action: seek felony indictments against Bush et al.
There is a preponderance of evidence that indicates that Mr. Bush et al conspired to commit fraud against the United States (lying to congress) which is a felony.
As a direct result of the commission of that felony, approximately 3000 Americans and 600,000 Iraquis have died.
Under the felony-murder principle, that makes Mr. Bush and his cohorts prosecutable for approximately 603,000 counts of felony-murder, each of which includes hard time or the death penalty in states that have it. (Texas comes to mind).
I'm sure there are jurisdictional nicities to hammer out, but there is no legal reason why Bush (et al) should not be indicted for these felonies.
And, of course, conviction for a felony would be grounds for impeachment.
Anyone have thoughts on this, I'd like to hear them.
SJ
bush: subverts the constitution, and that's impeachable.
I think that felony is a hard way to proceed, and difficult to prove: you are looking for fraud, and that requires clear and malicious intent: it's hard to prove fraud without that intent. And if he conspired, the conspirators have to be named and then would be included.
Everything that goes around comes around: the office of the special prosecutor is such a case.
It is prudent, very, to stay within the staid boundaries of the constitution and avoid creating precedence which risk misapplication in the future.
I would rather see prosecution for things like his signing statements: those are acts which subvert the intention of the constitution and that could be a bitter legacy if his abuse of office is not addressed in the impeachment.
But, that was a good thought and I see from googling "felony president" gets a lot of hits.

rights and impeachment rally day. It might be big. It should be. 12/10 could be cold, tough for a big rally, a lot of the country just got hit by nasty weather. The whole country might be coming down? I wonder. Bush is being pilloried as the worst president ever. Well, duh! But he is so far off the scale! I can't imagine anyone so abysmally unqualified for the position. "leaving room for improvement"
NY, Binghamton: Broome County Peace Action Impeachment Campaign
Campaign to push for Bush/Cheney impeachment
Members of the Broome County Peace Action plan Monday, November 5, 2007 to announce a regional campaign advocating for an impeachment inquiry into President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
After a very successful Impeachment Teach-in, and in direct response to Congressman Maurice Hinchey’s request for more concrete display of public support for impeachment, the Broome County Peace Action, in conjunction with other social justice and peace organizations, has launched a County-wide campaign to advocate for an impeachment inquiry into President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
The group is planning the announcement for 4:30 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2007 outside the Federal Courthouse on 15 Henry Street in Binghamton, NY.
The event follows the Impeachment Teach-In, which drew about 400 people to the Broome County Forum on Oct. 13.
Your neighbors to the east in Congressional Dist 22
Hi Chip, Just found a link to Democrats.com in an email from UFPJ. Lo and behold found your email on a blog that has been too quiet since December of last year. We held our Teach-In about a year ago. The impeach resolution that was submitted to the Ulster Legislature has been kicked around, on and off the table for a long long time now. But never got passed by the Dem majority in that body.
Very excited that you folks are kicking up a fuss, and I have informed a bunch of impeachment interested folks in Ulster County about your activity. Perhaps we can join forces and shake Hinchey off his censure attitude. I asked folks to investigate this site if they are interested. I am way busy right now but will monitor the site to see if anything is happening.
