Hi Austinites,

Apparently I am suppose to propose a time and a place for people to meet up to get signatures for the impeach Bush petition but my next two weekends are going to be busy. I am not sure if I will even be in town.

Alternatively, I think people should go out on their own or in groups to heavily travelled areas around town - I will be. Places I have in mind are obviously Guadalupe around 24th street, maybe at the Hyde Park HEB, any malls, the Arboretum area, or even the Intramural Fields.

If you want to find people to join you feel free to post on this forum when and where you plan to go. It is probably a good idea to have some kind of poster that lists some of the numerous crimes Bush and his administration have committed. As well as a poster or paper with an example letter on it that people can emulate for writing Congressman Doggett.

For those that are unaware, copy and paste this link into your search bar:
http://www.democrats.com/cdic
and read the list that is under number 2.
It describes very clearly a good method to collect peoples petition signatues, emails, and personal letters to Congressman Doggett.

I will be willing to pick up personal letters to deliver to the District Office, however, it would probably look better the more different people we have showing up there with letters.

We have to start acting fast because we are trying to get as many signatures and letters as possible by December 10th, "Human Rights Day". So post on this forum if you would like to help. I'll let you know when I am going out but don't wait for me, make your own dates, I may have odd times.

Best of luck and thanks for your support.

Impeach Bush

This is a great way for Democrats to give themselves a self-inflicted black eye. The Senate would never convict the President even if the House would pass Articles of Impeachment, so it all becomes a pointless gesture.

It's much better, both tactically and strategically, for Congress to investigate the abuses of the Bush gang and promote legislation to correct them. Unalgned voters will see this as positive and reward it accordingly.

I was around to observe the impeachment activities against Nixon. The only reason impeachment and conviction would have carried in his case was that it was clear that the whole Watergate scenairo was done with malice aforethought. All we will be able to prove in Bush's case will be loads of stupidity which, unfortunately, will not suffice for conviction in the Senate or even impeachment in the House.

JSpartz, how do you equate your opinion...

with the fact that the Constitution itself makes mandatory, the impeachment of the president who has committed high crimes(perjury, treason, murder of innocents and more).

He swore, on his family bible no less, to Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. He violated that oath many times.

This is not a matter of choice...it is a matter of whether this nation can continue to exist with it's constitution intact.

It is a matter of law.

Impeachment is mandatory for both Bush and Cheney

If they are not impeached before the next election, many more Americans will die senseless deaths in the war they started when they bombed the WTC.

The internet is the only free media. The same people who put Bush in power own the newspapers, television and radio. They own the oil companies, pharmaceutical companies and insurance and banking industries.

Understand this: Bush or no Bush, America will NEVER LEAVE IRAQ. We have devided the oil among our own oil companies, and we will never leave.

let's dont pussy-foot around....

Precedent is important. We are less than two years away from setting in stone the precedent that the fabrication of a war does not rise in this nation to the level of importance we give to a sexual favor!

The arrogance of power and lawlessness of this president and vice-president would make Nixon blush.

It is not clear to me that there is not enough evidence to convict. Not only is there the conyers report, but entire books have been written on the case for impeachment.

Let's be clear. If it can be shown that any of the "evidence" to justify the invasion was fabricated, there is a strong case for conviction.

In any case, there is much more than enough evidence to impeach.

I respect your opinion, but you have to realize that what is at stake here is the soul of the nation. The Republic is in danger of becoming an outdated, irrelevant notion, taking a distant place to American Idol.

Are we to be the generation under whose watch the fabrication of a war of aggression ceased to be a "high crime"? Indeed, something even more trivial than a sexual favor? Think of facing your grandchildren in this knowledge. This may yet come to pass. If Cindy Sheehan was not able to put a dent on the machine, things look grim. But will we stand idly by as it does?

Frankly, we really need to have a bit more balls on this side of the aisle. The GOP did not mind impeaching a president on the basis of a sexual favor. Talk about a black eye. I would think grown men and women would be embarrased to go down in history as the bunch that trivialized our federal governemnt to that extent. But these folks were unabashed. But we, we sit on volumes of documented lawlessness and we hesistate?! Please.

I respect your opinion. But please realize that this is a forum to mobilize for *action* on impeachment. I really didnt think that my first entry here would have to argue the case for it.

Please, if you disagree that impeachement is called for, please do this forum a favor and take it to the many other venues to express this. Here we need to concentrate on actions to be taken. We have little time, we really have to focus. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

ok, can I get an attendance list here?

I just glanced at the dates of the posts here -- they make this site look like it is essentially inactive.  Can we please do a roll call?  Just post a note saying you are here and you are ready.  I have some ideas but I need to know what we have to work with here.  I dont want to be talking to myself.

Thanks.

Austin Impeachment Forum July 7

A coalition of World Can't Wait, Code pink, and the Travis County Green Party have been organizing a forum on impeachment for several weeks, and it happens tomorrow!!  That is:

Saturday, July 7th, 3:30 pm
First Unitarian-Universalist Church
4700 Grover (off of 49th, between Lamar and Burnet)

Missed it!!!

Where have you guys been!!  Finally, contact!  I've been looking for signs of life in this thing.  I feel like a man whose message in a bottle got answered!  Anyway, what's going on?  When's the next thing?  We need to organize a visit to Doggett's office (the man will not answer my questions about House Resolution 333 -- I must have called his office five times in the last six weeks).  Please reply -- I am going to sign up with realdemocracy and try to make contact that way, but please reply here just in case -- I dont want to stay stranded again, plus we have to resurrect this forum!

Join AustinImpeach

I started a local (Austin-wide) group for working toward impeachment that is a bit more active than this list. You can join at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AustinImpeach.  Within that group, we have self-organized smaller groups working based on district or other factors. Join us.
