Congressionnal legislative program vs. impeachmentI am struggling with a conflict concerning which direction my future activism should take. On the one hand,I fully understand the reluctance of the leading Democrats at this time to engage in a move to impeach Bush and Cheney. They have to reestabllish themselves as worthy of leadership in the many issues facing them as they gain control of congress. On the other hand, impeachment is a tool granted to the people to deal with crimes and other illegal actions taken by the president. I believe that we must organize from the ground up a movement to impeach; if it is strong enough it will eventually empower the Democratic leaders to respond to the will of the people thereby invalidating any accusation of "revenge" by the leaders as they take office.

Actually, the Constitution
Actually, the Constitution does not provide "tools," rather it sets forth laws. Impeachment is not a matter of choice if the law has been broken -- it is mandated by the Constitution.
It is not as if we, or the new Congress, have a choice in the matter. It is the sworn duty of Congress to uphold the Constitution and the rule-of-law it establishes. There are no political loopholes in the Constitution such as, "reestablishing worthiness," or a "reluctance to act."
The big question at this time is: Will the newly-elected Congress exercise their Constitutionally-mandated oversight of the Executive Branch, and thoroughly investigate the charges of corruption and malfeasance that they made before the elections? Or, will they back away from those charges, and give the impression that they fooled the American voters with deceptive hyperbole just to get elected?
All of the "social, economic, and political reforms" in the world will not make up for allowing a dictatorial and autocratic administration to literally get away with total disregard for the laws of the land; or, the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation based on lies and deception which resulted in the murder of innocents.
