I can't say enough about how thankful we are to have committed citizen activists like you working together with us!

This Thanksgiving, we have two amazing victories to celebrate: the Pennsylvania Mercury Rule and the Pennsylvania Clean Vehicles Program. Last night, the state Senate and House adjourned, leaving both intact.

Thanks to your calls, e-mails, letters, post cards, letters to the editor, volunteering, organizing events, and sharing information with friends and neighbors-we depart for the holiday knowing that your hard work paid off.

These are enormous victories! Together, we took on some of the most powerful, well-funded industries, lobbyists, and special interests, and we turned the tide toward protection of Pennsylvanians' health, our economy, and our environment.

Earlier this year, the Senate voted 40 to 10 in favor of killing Pennsylvania's protective Mercury Rule, that would mandate cutting 90 percent of this toxic pollution from our state's power plants. Opponents of the rule worked tirelessly for over a year to bring it down, but your collective voices and your actions won the day. Nearly 11,000 comments in favor of the rule poured into the state's Environmental Quality Board (a record number!), and earlier this month, the rule made it over its last regulatory hurdle.

The Senate this week was poised to make a last ditch effort to stop the Mercury Rule, but thanks (again) to your outpouring of support for the rule, they thought better of it.

At the same time in the House, opponents of the Pennsylvania Clean Vehicles Program were working to try to stop this beneficial regulation. Your participation in working to keep this program in Pennsylvania was what made the difference! Harmful SB 1025 never made it to the House floor for a final vote, despite being on the voting calendar several times in the past few weeks.

Looking back over the past year, there were many times when it was hard to imagine the outcome we have today. There's no way to measure the thanks that untold numbers of Pennsylvanians will feel when these two vital programs take effect.

Citizen action can and does work, and we thank you for being part of these historic efforts. We look forward to continuing to make Pennsylvania's future one where our communities, nature, and the economy thrive-together.

It took AMA 50 years to recognize and teach Asperger's Syndrome in American medical schools(finally, in 1995) after Hans Asperger's first discovered AS in Austria in the 1940's. I hope it doesn't take that long for AMA to recognize an English-speaking research film from Canada.
